The 2018 ASEAN 2-Wheeler Manufacturing and Sustainability Summit held on December 3 & 4, 2018 at Crowne Plaza Jakarta Hotel in Indonesia recently concluded.

ASEAN 2-Wheeler Manufacturing

The summit was organized by Ringier Trade Media Ltd and supported by Indonesia Motor Association, Indonesian Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries, Metal and Machining Association ASPEP.

The event offered a great opportunity to network with industry professionals involved in the latest battery technology advancements, engineered plastics materials, applications of high-efficiency machines and manufacturing techniques. Taking into consideration that Asia Pacific as a whole accounts for 80% of all global new motorcycle sales by volume, in which 65% of that is being sold in Indonesia.

The event started with a welcome address by Amber Chang on behalf of Ringier Trade Media Ltd President Michael Hay. It was followed by theme address on Indonesia's Motorcycle Industry by Johnny Darmawan Danusasmita, Vice Chairman of KADIN Indonesia and Member of National Economic and Industrial Committee.

Opportunities in motorcycle market

Indonesia is the sixteenth largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and is the seventh largest in terms of GDP (PPP). With GDP forecasted to reach US$1.3 trillion and urban population expected to grow by 21 million new inhabitants by 2020 large urban centres will emerge as a driving force for 2-wheeler growth. With poor public transportation, 2-wheelers are the optimal mode of transportation – cheap usage and maintenance costs, high mobility and surprising capability of enduring harsh conditions and heavy loads make them perfect for urban environment resulting in over 105 million units operating currently on Indonesian roads.
