Latin America is home to a growing number of plastic products manufacturers whose target is to expand their markets by improving their production processes. While there are many challenges to penetrating the Latin American plastics market, there are opportunities to be explored, and Kung Hsing Plastics Machinery knows it. Kung Hsing President, Chin-lien Tsai, talks about the company’s recent decision to move ahead of competition by having its representative in Latin America.
What is Kung Hsing’s differentiated value proposition as against other Asian companies that you want to emphasize when you established a representation in Latin America market?
Mr. Tsai: Since the company's inception in 1972, Kung Hsing has insisted on providing the best machine quality and service to our customers. We now have customers from over 140 different countries all over the world.
We have 100 well-trained and experienced employees working in 12 different departments. We currently have three plants spanning a total of 20,000 sqm. The third factory is currently under construction and will be completed soon. Our production focus lately is centred on multilayer blown film lines – ranging from 2- to 9-layer machines. We manufacture and assemble our machines with the highest quality spare parts.
We have a highly experienced Research & Development (R&D) department, which we believe is not common in any other Taiwan blown film manufacturers. Thus, the machines we offer not only have high production rate and guarantee lower operational costs, but the most important feature is that our machines are reliable and durable, with long service life.
Another thing that we are really proud of is our excellent sales service. For all our customers, we create an individual file and the entire file is kept well for at least 25 years – which is very important for us when in maintaining our customer relations and managing our response to our customers.
How many Kung Hsing machines have you put in operation in the Latin American market?
Mr. Tsai: To date, we have delivered and put in operation over 200 sets of machines for our Latin American customers and the number is growing.
What are the main products that Kung Hsing is promoting this year in Latin America?
Mr. Tsai: As we explore the Latin American market, Kung Hsing is promoting machines for the production of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or water-soluble films and biodegradable films, as well as other types of films. Our multi-layer blown film lines (ranging from 2 to 9 layers) are intended for different applications and are attracting the interest of customers in the region.
What are the special features or specifications from Kung Hsing machines that will benefit the plastics manufacturers?
Mr. Tsai: Kung Hsing has introduced the Industrial 4.0 concept in our machines. This way, customers can monitor all production parameters even while they are not on-site, and management has the authority to change system settings remotely. Customers could save manpower and material resources while contributing to higher production rate under the same QC request by doing so.
How does your solution compare with competition as far as energy consumption is concerned?
Mr. Tsai: We use energy-saving parts in all sections and try to elevate output capacity while consuming the same amount of power. Our machines are known for their efficient energy utilization that makes them stand out and compete with other brands in the market.
How will your Latin American representation handle requests for spare parts and after-sales service?
Mr. Tsai: Our Latin American representatives maintain close contact with customers in the region. Whenever a customer encounters a problem on the machine, our representative will first attempt to understand the concern and try to offer a solution. Kung Hsing team is also ready to communicate with the customers throughout the process to ensure that we meet their request.
As for parts, we always use parts from well-known brands for our machines, which means that a customer can easily obtain majority of the required parts from the local market. In cases where the customers are unable to obtain parts in their home country, we have parts and components in Taiwan that can be immediately shipped to the customers.
How can a Latin American potential customer see or have access to a demonstration of your machines? Do you offer online presentation of machines or have available machines in the region to see?
Mr. Tsai: We can demonstrate to potential buyers via video calls with Kung Hsing customers in the region. The potential customers will be able to see the machines in action. Our Latin American representative will also be on hand to answer the questions regarding our machines.
