Marketing Manager Mark Dixon share with IMNA about the company's technology know-how in supporting OEM customers in selecting the best products to meet their unique connection requirements.

Profile_3_WEB.jpgIndustrial electrical connectors have consistently faced the challenge of being ‘smaller, faster, safer, and easier’ in the modern manufacturing era. Those 4 keywords have been one of the manufacturing trends in the automation industry with the following implicit requirement, ‘The components and connectors are required to be small and compact while being waterproof and resistant to vibration to withstand in rugged environments.’

Mencom Corp. is a company that offers a complete line of custom-made and off-the-shelf electrical connectors. It has become a preferred supplier for many global companies. Marketing Manager Mark Dixon share with International Metalworking News for Asia (IMNA) about the company’s technology know-how in supporting original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers in selecting the best products to meet their unique connection requirements.

IMNA: Kindly give a brief history of Mencom

Mark Dixon: Founded in 1987, Mencom Corporation provides high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet industrial electrical connector requirements. Our highly trained staff of experts utilise decades of electrical and electronic industry-related experience to develop the highest quality products available. In addition, this vast expertise allows us to assist OEM customers in selecting the best products to meet their unique connection requirements. This ensures our customers receive the most cost-effective solution possible, plus one that requires minimal installation time, reducing the customer’s total installed costs. Mencom’s headquarter and warehouse facilities are located in Oakwood, Ga., just north of Atlanta.

IMNA: Tell us about the metal enclosures that you manufacture

Mark Dixon: Mencom is the North American Master Distributor for ILME rectangular connectors. ILME Rectangular Connectors are known for their high-quality construction and reliable connection in the industry. These rectangular connectors include the base, the mating hood and the male and female insert. Applications for these connectors are found in process automation, automotive, robotics, factory automation, and machine tools just to name a few. This solution will help drastically reduce labour time and costs associated with product installation.

IMNA: Do you have any particular requirement when purchasing materials and processing equipment?

Mark Dixon: We request the Material certificate and certificate of Compliance for critical material when purchasing materials. We also request the supplier quality management certificate/system information if necessary.

Mencom_products_overview_WEB.jpgIMNA: How have you set the points in the past to ensure that the company has developed in such a positive manner?

Mark Dixon: Mencom has always focused on controlled constant growth and development to maintain a healthy environment for all our employees.  Strong financials, and a steady cash flow has given us the opportunity to invest in new technology, equipment, and process improvements.

IMNA: What can you say about the profit situation Asia?

Mark Dixon: Mencom is a renowned brand in the US manufacturing/automation industry. Although our market share in Asia is not yet large, we are striving to develop effective marketing strategies for increasing sales and profits in the fast-growing Asian countries. We have already established a distributor network in China, South Korea, and Japan and plan to expand further to the South & Middle Asia markets.

IMNA: Regarding demands in Asia, which are the most sought-after products?

Mark Dixon: The most demanding products line in Asia is the panel interface connector. It is a device that typically mounts to the outside of a control panel in a manufacturing or other automation setting.  Once installed, the PIC, which houses convenient pass-through connections, allows the user to interface with the computer, PLC, or other programmable devices inside the control panel without opening the panel door. The ability to interface with the contents of the cabinet without opening the door prevents a lot of potential safety hazards associated with having an open electrical panel, such as Arc Flash. Due to its convenience and safety, market demand has continued to grow over the past few years. There are standard metal housings and low-profile housing of different sizes, and the interface can be customised to meet the needs of end-users and applications. We currently have well over 2000 PIC designs in production and new designs are being created on a regular basis.

IMNA: In your opinion, what is your edge among your competitors?

Mark Dixon: We provide high-quality, cost-effective solutions, a capable team of engineers with decades of experience, progressive manufacturing facility, flexible custom solutions, and technology savvy customer service.

IMNA: Can you tell us about your career, and how do you deal with pressure?

Mark Dixon: With years of experience in hi pressure situations, overcoming pressure and stress is second nature

IMNA: Can you tell us what is behind your success?

Mark Dixon: We strive to exceed customer’s expectations by continually improving processes, products, and services to ensure they consistently meet or exceed customer requirements.

IMNA: Finally, how do you see the future, with special reference to Mencom?

Mark Dixon: We foresee the demand for automation, including the physical equipment and software, continually increasing to make manufacturing processes more efficient and streamline.  We plan to continue to invest in new equipment, process improvements, and our employees to meet those demands.  We plan to seek out diversification with our customer base, and expand our product offerings. The various global issues such as COVID-19, Russo-Ukrainian War, seemingly endless conflicts between the U.S. and China, the shortage of labour and semiconductors, increased cost of raw materials and the global logistic crisis have pushed the manufacturing industry into a difficult time. Furthermore, the fear of economic recession is looming in the industry. It is anticipated that the situation is not going to be better soon and the market will become increasingly competitive. However, in these difficult times, Mencom will strive to exceed customer’s expectations by delivering world class products of high quality at competitive prices.
