Vietnam' s emerging plastics manufacturing sector has expanded the horizon of many local manufacturers who are now taking bold initiatives with matching huge investments to produce better quality products. With regional trade on the upswing, and foreign investors?interest spurring investments in fast-rising industries, the benefits ultimately trickle down to new and more aggressive companies. International Plastics News for Asia talked to Mr. Dang Van Vu, Director of TBS Pack on the company?s various products and how they cope with rising demand in the wake of intensifying competition. IRNA: What are the key markets for TBS Pack?s products and how do you ensure that you meet the demand of these markets? Dang Van Vu: TBS Pack?s key markets are the European Union, United States, and Japan. The company turns out a range of plastics products including T-shirt bags, die cut bags, soft loop handle bags, patch handle bags, drawstring bags, wave top bags, roll bags, garbage bags and check out/top block bags/counter bags. Ever since our inception, we have expanded our product range to include biodegradable bags, which are now in high demand. Quality is the number one concern of our customers and key markets. Starting this year, we expect our capacity to reach 12,000 metric tons annually to meet the surge in demand. The capacity expansion runs side by side with the use of the latest machinery and producing our products in a sterile environment under strict standards. Thus, capacity expansion is another goal of the company, and in meeting this goal, we make sure that quality is not compromised. IRNA: You mentioned about expansion being a goal, what are the company' s plans in this aspect? Dang Van Vu: We recognize the fact that all our customers are happy, because we have been effective, efficient and consistent in our production. Repeat orders are common, and reflect the customers' satisfaction with our products. As a result, we have secured a variety of contracts in the European Union. While plans to expand the product range are not in place, plans to increase capacity are viewed as important as being a young company, we need to secure as much market share as possible. We want also to maintain our market position as a leading plastics producer in Vietnam. IRNA: How would you maintain your competitiveness? What are the rooms for improvement? Dang Van Vu: China is known as a source of cheap products. However, Vietnam has emerged and maintained its position as producer of quality products. In turn, this image has benefited us in such a way that we are able to secure contracts with a growing number of customers who believe in more improved quality of Vietnam products. For these customers, quality is more important than price because end users in Europe and the United States are more concerned with quality. And with the recognition that Vietnam can now compete in terms of quality, more manufacturers are now moving their operations to Vietnam from China. There is always room for improvement in quality. Our customers are always asking for higher quality products but this is consistent with most industries, and will always be an issue. We have invested in advanced technology and latest machinery to meet these needs and grow with them; we believe that our current market leader position can be sustained for as long as we are aware of the needs of the markets and meet their demands.
