Chefs vie for the first Marco Polo International Gelato Cup

THE Marco Polo International Gelato Cup will shine the spotlight on the world’s finest gelato chefs this coming November 12-13. The new competition will be held at FHC China 2015, a global food and hospitality exhibition organized by the China International Exhibitions Ltd (CIE) and Messe Dusseldorf.

Teams from Italy, Germany, Poland, China, and Taiwan will showcase talent before top culinary masters, among them Marcello Trentin, winner of the greatest Chef China 2014 competition and Leonardo Ceschin, Gelato World Champion 2012. Each team will consist of an ice carver, a gelato chef and a pastry chef.

In this “East meets West” competition, teams will outdo each other in the following categories: gelato flavor; gelato cake; gelato decoration; mystery box; ice carving and matching gelato with other foods.

“The gelato industry is growing rapidly in China,” said competition organizer, Brendan Jennings of CIE. “It is important that young Chinese chefs learn the skills of gelato from the very best chefs in the world.”

He said the event will give visitors from the hotel and hospitality sector, retailers of gelato and ice creams, and the food distribution trade across China the opportunity to witness gelato creativity, and preparation and training in China to the very highest standards.

“We are delighted to welcome the Marco Polo Gelato International Cup to FHC China 2015,” said Mr Jennings. The competition will provide a focus for the gelato industry within FHC. The leading suppliers of gelato flavors, ingredients and equipment will take stands around the gelato competition area. While, gelato trade buyers and chefs from all over China have the opportunity to meet suppliers from the industry and at the same time learn from the international gelato experts participating and judging the competition.”

FHC China 2015 is scheduled from 11-13 November 2015 at Shanghai new International Expo Centre.
