Chinese rubber industry expected to grow 12% in 2008Automotive industry will continue to be the driving force of the rubber industry in China in 2008, according to Fan Rende, Secretary General of the China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA). In a recent rubber market development forum organized by CRIA in Yunnan province, in southwestern China, Mr Fan forecast that this year China's rubber industry would see an increase of around 12% year-on-year. For tire sales, he expected a 15% growth on the tire sales. Albemarle to expand antioxidant production in China Albemarle Corporation, a leading global supplier of antioxidants for polymers, lubricants, fuels and biofuels, announced recently that its Board of Directors has approved a project to more than double the antioxidant production capacity of Shanghai Jinhai Albemarle Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd., part of the 揓inhai Albemarle?manufacturing joint venture in which Albemarle gained a majority ownership stake last year. This strategic expansion will allow Jinhai Albemarle to maintain its market position as the leading manufacturer and supplier of polymer a n t i o x i d a n t s in China. Jinhai Albemarle currently supplies antioxidants to many Chinese petrochemical companies from two integrated production sites in China. Albemarle will continue to leverage its global presence to enhance exports from both the Shanghai and Ningbo plants to the growing regional and global plastics marketplace. DSM invests in development of bio-based materials in China DSM Venturing, the corporate venturing unit of Royal DSM N.V., has participated in a USS 20 million financing round in Tianjin Green Bio-Science Co., Ltd (China). The proceeds will be used to build China's largest m a n u f a c t u r i n g p l a n t f o r Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) in the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA). The investment is in line with DSM's ambitions to develop bio-based performance materials to meet customers?growing needs for improved performance and environmental benefits at competitive costs. PHA offers, in response to thegrowing market need for eco-friendly solutions, a new bio-renewable polymer platform for a broad range of applications from automotive to biomedical and electronics, including multiple forms like fibers, films and foams.
