The Chinese University of Hong Kong is using the EOS low dose 2D/3D imaging for diagnosis, planning, and control imaging
EOS imaging has recently announced the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is adopting an EOS (R) system, making it the first hospital in Hong Kong to install the technology.

The CUHK ranks among the top 100 medical schools in the world, according to Thompson Reuters’ Times Higher Education World University Subjects Rankings. The clinical work and research of its orthopedics department is considered among the best and has been published in more than 54 international medical journals. The department’s strong emphasis on patient care and commitment to equip surgeons with industry-leading equipment and innovative surgical planning and modeling services were critical in the university’s decision to install the EOS system.

The EOS system is capable of full-body stereoradiographic images of patients in functional positions, in both 2D and 3D. EOS exams require a radiation dose that is 50% to 85% less than digital radiology and 95% less than basic CT scans.

The new EOS Micro Dose option, which was recently cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, is a further drastic step towards the As Low As Reasonably Available (ALARA) principle. It brings pediatric spine follow-up exams at the dose level equivalent to a week of natural background radiation on Earth.

According to EOS imaging CEO Marie Meynadier, “The Chinese University of Hong Kong is ranked as a leading university for orthopedic care in Asia and we are thrilled by their decision to adopt EOS for their diagnosis, planning, and control imaging. This new installation will strengthen our growing presence in the important Asia-Pacific market where we are investing to deploy our technology.”

A pioneer in 2D/3D orthopedic medical imaging, EOS imaging is based in Paris and holds four subsidiaries in Besançon, France; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Montreal, Canada; and, Frankfurt, Germany. It also has offices in Singapore. It currently employs 107 people, including an R&D team of 39 engineers.

The Group is authorized to market in 47 countries, including the United States, Japan, and the European Union. Its consolidated revenue in 2014 reached €20.1 million.
