在已经落幕的2008马来西亚MTA展览上,众多企业展出了最新金属加工机械和设备。一些行业巨头向本刊编辑表述了他们对东南亚市场的看法。

MTA Malaysia 2008 held recently at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur drew a crowd of nearly 24,000 from 69 countries. A total of 1,500 companies from 33 countries, of which 60% were foreign, had displayed the latest in metalworking machineries and equipment. Major players HwaCheon, Seco Tools, Yamazaki Mazak, WALTER, Hexagon, TRUMPF and Renishaw have expressed their views concerning the market in South East Asia. HwaCheon Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, Managing Director, Klaus Ludwig said this is the first time HwaCheon is exhibiting its products in Malaysia and his objective is to popularize the brand and secure new customers. 揥e already have customers such as Notion Venture Sdn Bhd who bought two units of the Hi-Tech 200 last year. A good number of units have been sold in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. We are targeting the mold & die business and parts manufacturing industries namely automotive, aerospace and electronics, he said. On the drop in demand for mold & die, he explained, 揟his trend is common in most developing countries that are upgrading their machines to become more high-tech. So, what we offer is higher quality molds in Malaysia.? Expressing a positive outlook on the growth in Malaysia, he said, 揅ompanies are coming back to Malaysia from China to reinvest in general parts manufacturing. I believe Malaysia could be a key player in this for the region. It's good to have a China + 1 manufacturing base. Meanwhile, HwaCheon is targeting to hit US$3 million sales in Malaysia and US$18 million for Asia Pacific this year. Ludwig said, 揟he result last year, which is our first full financial year in Asia, was very positive. We achieved US$15 million sales in Asia Pacific and in the first four months this year; we have already reached this figure again - all from new clients. HwaCheon's strong markets are India, Indonesia, Singapore, China and Thailand. Ludwig said that the priority is to strengthen the company's presence in key markets and Malaysia. He added that, 揙ur priority last year was to set up a dealer network in Asia, which we have accomplished. With our representative office in Malaysia, BME Industries (M) Sdn Bhd, we hope to see better growth.?

Seco Tools (SEA) Pte Ltd, Managing Director, Kenneth Barkman foresees bigger demand from the oil & gas and aerospace industries for its cemented carbide cutting tools in Malaysia. He said, 揥e are experiencing growth all over the world. 90% of what we produce is for export out of Sweden. Our main markets are in Europe, followed by US and Asia Pacific. In the region, China is our biggest market in terms of size and growth. He added, 揥e are happy with our growth so far - it is a double digit growth in Southeast Asia. We are on track in achieving our target market share. He estimates that Seco has more than 10% market share in Malaysia, and is probably the top three players. Seco finds that local companies seemed to be behind foreign companies in adapting new technology. Nevertheless, Barkman noted that local companies are moving quickly towards higher end requirements. In terms of pricing, he said it depends on the customer segment and he thinks Seco has a good customer mix.New Balance
