Harnessing the health benefits of deep ocean water

WHEN numbers of sharp-drop cliffs and a boundless view of the Pacific Ocean appear before your eyes, you know that you have arrived at the east coast of Taiwan. Nature has blessed Taiwan with a lot of breathtaking landscapes, yet the island is not very rich in its natural resources – after the withering of gold and coal mining decades ago. But one obvious element serves as an exception to the lack of other natural resources – water, and in particular the ‘deep ocean water’. Being geologically formulated on an ocean bed that is advantaged to draw deep ocean water, Taiwan is one of the four qualified regions in the world to introduce deep ocean water, with the other three being Japan, Korea and Hawaii.

Returning to nature – elements that life needs

Taiwan Yes Deep Ocean Water Company (founded and invested by Taiwan Fertilizer Group in 2006) owns the largest deep ocean water project in Asia. The entire construction of its infrastructure was completed in seven years, including setting up the drawing pipes in the ocean – the pipes are embedded 662 meters below sea level, with a 4,950 total length and 2,000 tons drawing capacity per day. Being determined in overcoming the challenging weathers (Taiwan’s east coast is known for vicious attacks of typhoons in the summer) and strong sea currents, the construction team successfully launched the largest deep ocean water drawing site in 2006 – which is a milestone of allowing deep ocean water to be utilized in a variety of health applications.

Company president Tina L.A. Huang stated that “introducing deep ocean water to the general public is aimed at nourishing life with the most authentic elements, as life originates from the ocean. We wish to let the public learn about the benefits of deep ocean water and thus letting it operate its beneficial function in our daily livings”.

Discussing the benefits of deep ocean water, Ms Huang emphasized on the composition of minerals and trace elements that this water contains. Every claim is factually based and being experimented on in the labs. There are more than 80 types of minerals including magnesium and trace elements found in the deep ocean water. Furthermore, the ultimate value of the water is that its composition cannot be artificially imitated through scientific attempts. In addition, being pollution-free and preserved in low-temperature sea water, deep ocean minerals are characteristically stable and pure. And Taiwan Yes sustained the feature by insisting there be no additives added into the deep ocean water during the entire processes. It amplifies the value of deep ocean water, and differentiates it from other types of mineral waters.

Consume deep ocean minerals easily

The core product of Taiwan Yes is the extract produced from the deep ocean water D-MINNERALZ^TM ingredients. The concentrate is extracted by various high-tech facilities (reverse osmosis and low-temperature vacuum evaporation equipment) in order to preserve the minerals and trace elements drawn from the deep ocean water. Deep ocean water concentrate acts as a type of condensed functional ingredient, which allows different industries to use it for various applications.

Currently, D-MINNERALZ^TM ingredients have been further applied in functional beverages¹, sports nutrition supplements, and skincare products. They are also used in beer, and even pet food. There are more innovative applications waiting to be explored.

Research projects and papers published in international scientific journals that target the efficacy of deep sea water and deep sea minerals, show the safety and positive effects – including modulating blood pressure, recovering from fatigue, preventing body fat formation, suppressing serum total cholesterol levels, and so on².

In comparison to the deep sea water applications in Hawaii, Japan and Korea (mainly used for energy and food-related industry), Taiwan Yes’ focus is more on medical and health care applications. Thus the company dedicated its effort in these scientific researches in order to verify the potential benefits of deep ocean water. “Sharing a historical culture with the Taiwan Fertilizer company, which represented a brand of trust over the years, we only ever wish to provide accurate information and safe products to the general public,” said Ms Huang.   

More time to realize goals

While the population is aging fast, people now have a longer life expectancy. This means they have more time to attain their dreams and aspirations. Within this social phenomenon, health care and elderly care come under the spotlight.

Ms Huang said, “The prospect of deep-ocean water/minerals as a type of raw material is that it is creating a new trend in nutrition consumption. And we hope that people understand that consuming deep ocean water applied products benefits their health, and restores the purity of their body, because what you are consuming is much more than just water – but a gift from Mother Nature.”  Taiwan Yes plans to introduce deep ocean water products to the Southeast Asian region, and potentially collaborate with local companies for developing suitable health-products for the ASEAN market.

Deep ocean water and minerals are precious but easily assessable after the deep ocean water being drawn from the ocean, and extracted for multiple applications. They will revolutionize our perception on health-care products consumed in everyday lives.
