The development of industries in Thailand is growing very quickly, according to AMADA Thailand Co. Ltd CEO Yoshiaki Hoshizaki. A lot of AMADA metalworking machines are used in Thailand's various manufacturing. With its long history of providing comprehensive manufacture of turret punch press, the company offers tips in checking and maintaining  punching tools to help reduce the problems in production procedure and in saving cost in maintaining the tool.
Each punching tools differ in qualification and physical appearance that's why only selecting the right tool for punching work is not enough to increase the quality. In machine operation, the machine parts involving the tools might have an effect toward the tool life, which affects not only the quality of workpiece but the overall production process. Hence, maintenance as well as tool life prolongation is equally important in tools selection, which the operator should not overlook.

Check and maintenance

Daily checking can support the machine to run smoothly and effectively without any error. Meaning that daily check and maintenance are the main factors contributing the productivity and cost reduction, so what we should pay attention are below:

1) Cleaning and lubricating at upper turret

Frequently cleaning the Upper Turret is required to eliminate grease, dust and sawdust. The problems are:
1.1) Dirt and dust will remain in the tooling hole, deteriorating the moving punch and die.
1.2) Unknown particles in grease might be enter to the shot pin hole and cause the unbalance in putting the shot pin which will result in the mistake in punch and die hole. When the punch and die are unbalanced, it can cause a scratch or damage.
1.3) The grease remained on the surface of upper turret drop on punch head at the size around 1/2-inch and 11/4-inch causing a vacuum between punch head and striker, which will stick the punch and deteriorate our machine. Besides, it is one of the major causes in over position in punching.
1.4) Oil will spread out of upper turret to be with workpiece surface. When the machine punches the workpiece, the sawdust may stick to punch and make a scratch on workpiece.

2) Cleaning at the shot pin hole on upper turret and lower turret including on turret surface.
Before operating the machine, better clean at the Shot Pin Hole and each sides of turret. Please remember that every time the machine is lubricated, cleaning the grease should be followed in order to prevent a stain.

3) Cleaning inside a die holder and depreciation check

Prior to inserting die in the die holder, better examine if any sawdust of dust is inside. Nevertheless, we should clean before inserting die in the die holder. Then, try to move left, right, front and back so as to check if the sawdust remains in the die holder because saw dust can make die imbalanced and inaccurate position, which causes two main problems as followed:
3.1) The problem in inclined die may arise if that die is used for punching a large hole. And it doesn't get so stable that the force causes damage.
3.2) Below die holder has a bucking and requires to replace die holder.
3.3) Die is located on lean surface. If it got collided, the diameter size in die holder may not be circle shaking between die holder and die. Upper and lower surface of workpiece may have scratch. Locating on lean surface deteriorate the die. Besides, using deteriorated die can cause misalignmeAir Zoom Pegasus 33
