The Plastics & Rubber Indonesia, held at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran on November 16-19, 2016, is Indonesia’s premier exhibition on plastics and rubber machinery, processing and materials, and manufacturing solutions. The event incorporated dedicated concurrent showcases on DrinkTech Indonesia, PlasPak Indonesia and Mould & Die Indonesia.
The exhibition was opened by the Director of Downstream Chemical Industry, the Ministry of Industry, Mr Teddy Sianturi. He conveyed his hope for the exhibition to increase the transaction and transfer of technologies between exhibitors and visitors across different countries. In particular, he cited the importance of advanced technologies that focus on environment-friendly and efficient production processes which can be applied by companies processing rubber and plastics products operating in Indonesia.
The huge potential of the Indonesian packaging industry was stressed by Executive Director of the Indonesian Packaging Federation, Mr Henky Wibawa, who commented that the packaging industry in Indonesia is on its growth trajectory with about 60% of packaging applications on plastics. "Investing on packaging technology in Indonesia poses many opportunities, taking into consideration the vast market size." he said. "Currently, the consumption of plastics in Indonesia remains small when compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. Total consumption of plastics in Indonesia amounted to only 17 kilograms per capita, while Malaysia has reached 40 kilograms per capita. In that regards, there are a lot more scope for developments. Hence, the opportunities for growth are massive." he added.
Mr. Henky Wibawa, Executive Director, Indonesian Packaging Federation
Chairman of the Association of Indonesia Bottled Water Company, Mr Rachmat Hidayat said that the growth of the plastics industry is closely related to the food and beverage industry.
Plastics & Rubber Indonesia 2016, attracted 616 exhibiting companies from 30 countries/regions with 8 group pavilions from China, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan. In total, 12,244 visitors attended the event over 4 days.
