The 22nd International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (Chinaplas 2008) lasted for four days from 17 to 20 April in Pudong, Shanghai, PR China. It is estimated that 63,000 trade visitors from local and overseas have attended to overview and purchase more than 1,800 sets of advanced machines and a wide array of chemicals and raw materials. Since the show is the first large one subsequent to K 2007, the world's No. 1 plastics and rubber trade fair, a lot of innovative and advanced technology can be seen at Chinaplas 2008. Arkema speeds up its development in Asia 
Dominique Namer, Asia Pacific GM of Arkema, reaffirmed its commitment to developing in Asia its Technical Polymers activity. Thanks to its R&D's dynamism and capacity for innovation, its leading commercial positions, and its strong brands, Arkema has the necessary assets to speed up the growth of this activity on the Asian continent. From 2008, Arkema plans to invest some 50 million Euros/year in Asia. In October 2008, Arkema will inaugurate the industrial extension of its Shanghai hydrogen peroxide production plant, which will double production capacity. With these investments, Arkema affirms its ambition to increase the share of its sales in Asia significantly, from 13% today to 20% by 2012. www.arkema.com

A glimpse into the future of automobiles was made possible with Bayer MaterialScience's star exhibit at its booth the eXasis car. This concept car was developed to meet the challenge in blending innovative designs with the increased need for fuel efficiency. Major success for Brückner
Shanghai Bangkai Plastic Polyester Film Co., Ltd., known as innovative, first quality BOPET film producer within China, continues the good cooperation with Brückner for their expansion project: The contract signing for a brand new 8.7m BOPET l i n e t o o k p l a c e a t Chinaplas 2008. With this project, Bangkai and Brückner will be establishing an appropriate performance benchmark: the new 8.7 m line will run at high line speeds of more than 400 m/min, with a net output of 25,000 tonnes per year. www.brueckner.com
Solutia increases production to meet growing global demand
