InterPlas Thailand: ASEAN industrial giants in one big event

InterPlas Thailand returned as a concurrent event of the Manufacturing Expo 2017. Post-exhibition highlights and feedback from exhibitors. 
InterPlas Thailand returned as a concurrent event of the Manufacturing Expo 2017. As Thailand’s premier exhibition for the plastics, rubber and petrochemical industries, InterPlas Thailand offered a wider scope true to its promise of presenting the most advance technologies and information to boost the operations of the region’s leading industrial players.  
 
The mega event, Manufacturing Expo 2017, provided a comprehensive technology and solutions for manufacturing including molds and dies, plastics, automotive, automation, electronics, coating and other fast-growing sectors.  This year, Manufacturing Expo brought 2,452 brands from 46 countries of which more than 50% came from Japan. Visitor registration reached 79,904 of which more than 5,000 came from outside Thailand.  
 
InterPlas Thailand alone featured over 350 brands from 20 countries, serving automotive, electronics & electrical, packaging, bioplastics and medical equipment industries. The exhibition highlighted five newly promoted industries by the Thai government, industries that are considered to be the future of Thai and global industrial sector as they have already attracted many global companies who have shown interest to invest in Thailand as a manufacturing base. These promoted industries include: Industrial Robotics for replacing manual workers; Aviation and Logistics in line with the expansion of U-tapao airport; Biofuels and Biochemicals; Digital Industry; Medical Industry to form the medical hub.
 
Other exhibition highlights included the “Robots: from Space Elevator Project” brought by Japan Space Elevator Association (JSEA) which demonstrated robots that can defy gravity from Earth to Space. This highlight was shown for the first time in ASEAN. 
 
The 3D Technology Zone showed 3D printing potentials while the Smart 4.0 Zone demonstrated machinery controlled for production through PLC process or the Internet of Things. Another highlight was the Plastic Innovation Showcase where plastic innovations and samples of futuristic plastic applications are shown. M Fair Business Matching was launched as a matching platform for Japanese SMEs with ASEAN subcontractors. 
 
Several seminars also took place during the exhibition, among them, the “Breakthrough Technologies and Materials for Sustainable Plastics Processing,” held on June 22, 2017 hosted by Ringier Trade Media Ltd which aimed to provide the latest information on innovative plastics processing technologies.

Innovative sensors for diverse applications
At InterPlas Thailand, German company wenglor introduced its innovative photoelectronic and ultrasonic sensors. According to Mr. Worarat Sarasureepom, Area Sales Engineer, at wenglor sensori (Thailand) co.,ltd, wenglor maintains a sales office in Thailand. “wenglor has been revolutionizing the market for optical sensors for decades and we offer a broad range of sensors, from retro-reflex sensors for diverse applications right on up to intelligent, high-performance distance sensors with communications capabilities, especially geared for automating the production process,” Mr. Sarasureepom explained.
 
The photoelectric sensor portfolio includes patented sensors with various types of light, as well as numerous housing formats and functional principles. “For our customers here in Thailand, we provide the ideal product for any application. For instance, sensors with various functional principles in a uniform format permit easy integration into existing concepts.”

Ceramics injection molding takes center stage   
Zirconia ceramic applications and their advantages were the main highlights at Nolato’s booth at InterPlas Thailand. Swedish-company Nolato Silikonteknik has production resources under its own management in Beijing, China and Penang, Malaysia.   Mr. Allen Tan, General Manager at Nolator EMC Production Center Sdn.Bhd. emphasized the company’s capabilities in ceramics injection molding.  In particular, “Zirconia ceramic applications include dental/medical, consumer electronics, consumer goods, jewelry, industrial and wearable devices. The items we exhibited at InterPlas broadly presents our capabilities,” according to Mr. Tan. With the material industry evolution and the development of manufacturing process, mechanical and cosmetic ceramic represented by Zirconia has gradually been utilized in the medical, automotive and luxury goods industries.

Customized parts  
Wan Iuan Enterprise Co., Ltd was established in 1991. Currently, its production plant is located in Luzhu District, Kaohsiung in Taiwan. Smart induction heater system  
I Smart Engineering Co., Ltd. is a Thai company established in 2011. According to its Senior Sales Manager, Natee Kuhiao, “We are the first Thai company that designed, researched, developed and manufactured Smart Induction Heater System to replace the conventional heater bands that were used for heating on plastic extrusion and plastic molding. Our product can cut down heat energy loss by 30%-75% after replacement.”
 
The Smart Induction Heater Module system is ideal for extruder, injection molding as well as recycling machines. It has obtained sole patent in Thailand (Patent no. 1403000474) and was initiated and supported by Thailand National Innovation Agency (NIA).  I-Smart Engineering has been operating in Thailand for 20 years and has been actively exploring international markets. According to Mr. Kuhiao, the company is keen on the Indian market as it sees vast opportunities for its products given India's fast-growing industrial sector.
