New inks ideal for marking packaging with stringent coding requirements

Paul LEIBINGER, provider of integrated solutions for industrial product marking and the printing industry, has introduced inks that enable non-contact marking of LOT numbers, best before dates, etc, on products made from PE, PP, OPP, and PA, during production.

The inks are made for the company’s inkjet printers.

The black adhesive ink for plastics sticks on packaging materials like PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), and OPP (oriented polypropylene) better compared to conventional inks which will rub off or provide limited protection against scratching with normal use. On the other hand, the imprints made using the new inks exhibit good adhesion and abrasion resistance.

LEIBINGER offers a new security ink for marking products requiring counterfeit protection. The black, pigmented ink appears green fluorescent under UV light. The authenticity of the printed coding can therefore be checked under UV light, where it should no longer appear black but green fluorescent.

A new silver gray ink applies to both light and dark surfaces, so it takes one printer to mark products and packaging of different colors on one production line. The pigmented ink appears almost white on black surfaces and gray on white ones.

Also on offer are the MEK-free, green pigmented ink and a light yellow, pigmented MEK ink which can provide a brilliant color imprint even on dark backgrounds, the company said.

The printers which are made in Germany have an automatic Sealtronic nozzle seal to prevent ink from drying even during long pauses in production. So they are always ready to use. Customers can request for a printer model from the JET3up and JET2neo series, and this will be supplied with the appropriate ink based on their printing needs.
