Companies test pulse electric field (PEF) technology in their own facilities to see how it can be incorporated in their production of juice, wine, and so on.  

This video explains how pulse electric field technology (PEF) could change the way food is processed. PEF uses brief pulses of electricity, taking only microseconds, to modify the cell membranes of plant or animal material  (fruit, vegetable, meat, etc). The technology enables manufacturers to save time, resources and nutrients, and is ideal for small to medium size companies. The Apple Farm is one of the companies featured in this video. In Ireland, it produces 600,000 tonnes of apples a year, with about a quarter of harvest made into juice, cider and vinegar. The company took part in a project to see how PEF can be applied in their processes such as juicing.
