Philippines can now experience better 3D CAD

Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company behind some of the world's top innovations, began setting up its network in the Philippines in 1998. The company is taking a big step forward in the Philippines having recently launched SolidWorks 2017 updates in the country.

INTERNATIONAL METALWORKING NEWS FOR ASIA spoke to Benjamin Tan, Dassault Systèmes Director of Professional Channels for AP South, and Ba-Thong Phan, Dassault Systèmes Senior Manager of Techical Sales for AP South during the press launch of SolidWorks 2017 at the Peninsula Manila, Makati City, Philippines.

Benjamin Tan said, "The Philippines is a growing nation, so there are a lot of opportunities for us here. Benjamin added, "What started out as 3D CAD software 1998 has evolved into a full ecosystem of solutions that supports the entire enterprise, from building best-in-class connected products to supporting downstream disciplines that keep designs flowing through development and into production faster than ever before. Each new release of SolidWorks includes hundreds of new enhancements, 90 percent of which are user-requested.

Ba-Thong Phan explained, "SolidWorks 2017 is the 24th annual release of CAD (MCAD, ECAD), simulation, data management and collaboration tools that delivers the power our users need to drive innovation. In this release, 90 percent of the enhancements are driven by user feedback."

“Customers can talk directly to our solutions partners and through them we can provide everything they need to make designing easier. Starting with SolidWorks 2017, customers on Subscription will have access to Online Services through MySolidWorks. The online serviced will be delivered staggered throughout the year 2017 starting with SolidWorks world in February 2017,” Ba-Thong added.

Innovation platform

Like CAD, there are many innovations in simulation with advanced nonlinear (arc length control), better visualisation of hot spots, etc. There are over 100 enhancements in SolidWorks Electrical alone. Extending the ECAD ecosystem, we are introducing SolidWorks PCB powered by Altium, and SolidWorks 2017 is the first full major release for SolidWorks PCB. Now, customers like Myomo can design its full system from PCB boards to electrical wiring, to mechanical and simulation of its connected device in a single environment. The best-in-class collaboration between mechanical, electrical and PCB engineers allows SolidWorks customers to decrease development costs, significantly improve time to market and reduce the number of prototypes and errors.
