SparkCharge CEO talked about the company's story of developing portable and ultrafast charging for electric cars, whenever and wherever customers want it.

South East Asia is charging ahead with electric vehicle ambitions. This year, Indonesia has decided to open up the country to investment for the manufacture of electric vehicles (EVs). Thailand on the other hand is leading other South East Asian countries in providing incentives for consumers and investors to boost its domestic electric vehicles.

However, long charging times are a major drawback of electric cars currently on the market. They slow down road trips, and they're a major inconvenience for owners who can't charge their cars at home.

As easy as ordering a pizza

How about envisioning a future where EVs will dominate the roads in South East Asia and charging your EV can be as easy as ordering a pizza: DONE anytime and anywhere. At SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2019 in Dallas, Texas INTERNATIONAL METALWORKING NEWS FOR ASIA witnessed a preview of that future.

SparkCharge CEO Joshua Aviv presented its innovative business idea to a panel of judges during the 3DEXPERIENCE Pitch. Its goal is to “reduce range anxiety for drivers of electric cars.”

Joshua was given a five-minute pitch, during which he identified both the problem and opportunity addressed by his product, a portable and ultrafast charger for electric vehicles, and how they used SolidWorks in the design of their product.

Electric cars are the future. The transition in South East Asia has just begun. From an automotive standpoint, South East Asia is one of the most dynamic regions globally. The major motor vehicle producers – Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, account for over 4 million units in production. The entire region itself is a growing market of over 3 million vehicles.

When considered as a single region, South East Asia is the fifth largest market in the world ahead of Russia and Brazil. While Asia is currently the growth engine of the global automotive demand, after China and India, the next wave of growth is going to come from South East Asia. SparkCharge’s technology is very encouraging for drivers in South East Asia. The fully portable and modular level-3 charging stations for electric cars that provide the convenience of charging anytime and anywhere. It would be great if one day, this technology can reach our shores.

SparkCharge is starting small. But I learned that their goal is to partner with taxi services, how about partnering with Grab here in South East Asia? Let’s see in the future.
