SAVE FOOD will launch in China via the processing and packaging exhibition, swop 2017, which addresses target groups of food, beverage, confectionery, bakery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, non-food consumer goods and industrial products in key emerging markets.
SAVE FOOD is a joint initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Messe Düsseldorf, and interpack, the leading trade fair for processing and packaging. It aims to fight global food waste and loss by promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and spark debate with the goal of generating solutions across the entire value chain “from field to fork”.
As a theme, the initiative was unveiled at interpack 2011 with an international congress and a special exhibition. At present, more than 350 companies, trade organizations, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), and research institutes have registered as SAVE FOOD members.
In China, about 35 percent of annual grain production is wasted, according to a study from FAO and State Grain Administration. The launch of SAVE FOOD hopes to reduce this loss and waste.
