KASTO Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG's fully automatic machine is optimised for bimetallic and carbide blades and can be applied in the automotive industry

At the EMO in Hanover, the world's leading trade fair for the metalworking industry (18 - 23 September), KASTO Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG will present some exciting innovations from the two sides of the company's business: sawing and storage technology. Highlights at the trade fair stand in Hall 015 (stand number D58) will include an intelligent system for efficient energy use in automatic storage systems. Visitors will also be able to experience live in action the high-performance KASTOwin pro AC 5.6 band saw and the versatile KASTOmicut A 2.6 swing-frame band saw, which will enjoy its world première at this year's EMO.

For many years, the technology leader for the sawing and storage of metal bar stock has been supplying its storage systems with optional energy recovery. Surplus kinetic energy, such as that produced in braking of the storage and retrieval machine or lowering of lifting gear, can be converted into electricity and fed back into the grid. Now, on request, KASTO can also supply its automatic storage systems with an integrated energy storage unit. This permits the flexible use of the recovered energy. The solution not only reduces energy costs but also improves the quality of the power supply because energy is continuously drawn from the supply and load peaks are avoided. Operators can also often plan for and use smaller transformer stations, thus marginally reducing investment costs. Existing KASTO storage systems can also be retrofitted with energy recovery and storage.

KASTO will be demonstrating its new energy concept on the basis of a UNITOWER tower storage system that is available in three different variants. This makes it possible to store different materials above one another in a space-saving configuration. Cassettes, pallets or supporting frames are used as the load carriers. The towers effortlessly accept bar stock from 3,400 to 14,600 mm in length, thus allowing users to access different standard lengths as well as workpiece or production-optimised special lengths. The tower storage system is also designed as a modular system with individual modules. As a result, individual solutions can also be implemented with ease. With their variable loading height, tower storage systems provide a flexible, efficient solution which saves significantly more space and is therefore more economical than conventional floor and cantilever arm storage systems.

With the KASTOwin pro AC 5.6, the specialist will be presenting a high-performance band saw that excels through its short cutting times, long tool life and intuitive operation. The fully automatic machine is optimised for bimetallic and carbide blades and can be applied in areas such as the steel trade, steel production, forging mills, machine manufacturing and the automotive industry. In this way, users can reduce their tool costs and make sawing operations significantly faster and more efficient. Depending on the type of blade, cutting times can be reduced by 50 percent and more. The cutting range is 560 millimetres and the smallest dimension that can be cut is 25 x 25 millimetres. The shortest residual length is ten millimetres for individual offcuts and 35 millimetres for automatic operation, enabling operators to reduce waste to a minimum.

Last year, KASTO brought out the KASTOmicut range of highly versatile swing-frame band saws for use in workshops. A fully automatic version of this saw is now also available: the KASTOmicut A 2.6. Visitors to the EMO 2017 will be able to see it and all its technical characteristics for the first time. Compared to the manual and semi-automatic variants, it features various functions like electric monitoring of saw blade tension, carbide blade guides and an optional chip conveyor for virtually unattended operation. The machines are specially designed for cutting tubes, sections and solid materials to length and for mitre cutting. They feature high cutting accuracy and cutting quality, plus excellent value for money. The cutting range extends to 260 mm for round stock and 310 x 260 mm for flat stock. Mitre cuts are possible from -45 to +60 degrees. The mitre angle is continuously adjustable, as is the cutting speed, which can be set from 20 to 110 metres per minute. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for users and allows work with many different materials. A torsionally rigid, vibration-damped cast iron frame provides extremely good support for the saw blade, ensuring excellent cutting quality even with hard-to-machine materials.
