The 3rd SIAL ASEAN Manila bridges the gap between various sectors in food and beverage trade

FOUNDED in 1964, the Salon International de I’Agroalimentaire or simply SIAL, redefined the global food trade as it served up the world’s largest food innovation exhibition. Decades later, SIAL continues to be a leading force that inspires the growth of the industry – bringing its iconic expertise to the far-reaches of the globe in search of new markets to explore and nurture.

Seeing the Philippines as the most ideal gateway to the Asian food market with its strategic geographical location, unique and distinct food culture, and promising economic potential, SIAL made history as it hosted its first-ever ASEAN leg in 2014 – marking the beginning of bigger things to come.

Following two widely successful installments, SIAL had once again broken new grounds as it returned for its third edition. Held from May 29 to June 2 at the World Trade Center Manila, French event organizer, Comexposium in partnership with MAFBEX Events Management (MEM), a subsidiary of the Worldbex Services International, presented the “SIAL ASEAN Manila 2016: Look Deeper” – an invitation for the global food industry to go beyond the surface in search of undiscovered tastes and flavors.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by officers of the MAFBEX Events Management: Founding Chairman Joseph Ang, Co-Founder Levi Ang, Managing Director Jill Aithnie Ang, Executive Directors Rene Ramos and Tessie Roque, and Marketing Director JR Ang together with VIP guests and personalities including Mr. Halil Ozturk of the Embassy of Turkey, H.E. Truong Trieu Duong of the Embassy of Vietnam, Mr. Irawan of the Embassy of Indonesia, H.E. Kok Lipeng of the Embassy of Singapore, Mr. Nicholas Trentesaux of Comexposium, Asst. Dir. Drusila Esther Bayate of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Director Bernadette San Juan of the Department of Agriculture, Undersecretary Nora Terrado of the Department of Trade and Industry, and Director Verna Buensuceso of the Department of Tourism.

The grand launching of event

Conceptualized with the goal of uncovering the region’s reservoir of resources, homegrown innovation, and dynamic food sector, this year’s SIAL ASEAN Manila boasted of 350 exhibitors from 25 countries and 7 product zones with 15 product categories. As usual, an outstanding visitor count of no less than 5,000 flocked to the three-day event to take part in the most anticipated food exposition in the region. With 82 percent of visitors saying that they were very satisfied with their participation to the event and 80 percent of visitors saying they would join the event again next year. About 78 percent of the visitors said that they recommend the show to other food industry professionals.

Presented in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, this year’s SIAL ASEAN Manila also turned the spotlight on the region’s aquatic resources with a Seafood Pavilion which featured a cornucopia of seafood products and items that showcased an array of local fish, tuna, canned seafood, and fresh seafood among many others.

SIAL ASEAN Manila also headlined the Philippines’ agri-tourism, which serves to promote the country’s numerous agricultural sites as ideal educational-tourism destinations. Teaming up with the Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Agriculture, SIAL ASEAN prides in being a venue where local businesses may engage with an international network of global players.

Adding an enriching component to the SIAL ASEAN Manila experience is its line-up of event highlights. Among the 10 finalists, the Gold Award was turned over to the Central Luzon State University’s Tilapia Ice Cream. Showcased under the Department of Agriculture Pavilion, Dana Vera Cruz accepted the award that was presented by MEM Founding Chairman Joseph Ang and SIAL Group Director Nicolas Trentesaux.
