SIAL China, Asia‘s largest food innovation exhibition welcomed guests at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) on May 16. At the Opening Ceremony, distinguished guests, including Foreign Ministers, Ambassadors, Consul Generals, and Representatives from 25 Countries such as Argentina, Belarus, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Uruguay, as well as Chinese representatives from the Commerce Ministry, Agriculture Ministry of China, and Provincial and City Authorities were in attendance.
Director of the China Commerce Development Center, Ms. Liu Yingxia told guests that the “Chinese government is committed to meeting the growing needs of the Chinese people for a better life. Continuous attention to food quality, safety, and flavour diversity will surely make China a market full of opportunities for development and innovation.” Ms. Liu added, “SIAL China will surely provide a more efficient trading platform for domestic and foreign food suppliers and buyers and will also continue to provide ‘China opportunities.”

SIAL Network Director, Mr. Nicolas Trentesaux, encouraged trade visitors ‘to look deeper into the show saying that SIAL China 2018 will “not only inspire the worldwide community by revealing the latest trends and innovations, it will also be an amazing business platform to enable importers, retailers, and chefs to source new products” from the estimated 200,000 products on display at the largest food innovation exhibition in Asia and the fourth largest food exhibition in the world.
The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phil Hogan
The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phil Hogan, on behalf of the European Union (EU), told the attendees that the EU is privileged to be the Region of Honour at SIAL China 2018. “There are over 26 pavilions representing different Member States of the EU, with 75 pavilions and stands from various European Companies covering a joint surface of 6,000 square meters" at SIAL China 2018. He added, the EU is also at SIAL China “to learn more about Chinese food and drink traditions as well as the latest trends.”

SIAL China 2018 occupies13 Halls, including four dedicated zones, Meat (E5, E6, E7), Dairy (E5), Wine (E4), and Beverage (E4), and display products by Chinese and international companies from Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, and Africa. In addition, professional events and special exhibits will highlight food and beverage industry innovations and trends, including: SIAL Innovation (E3), La Cuisine (W4), Seafood Fest’ (E7), Wine Innovation Forum (E4), China National Specialty Tea Brewing Cup (E4), Retail & Hospitality Forum (W1), Chocolate World (W2), International Cold Chain Logistic Hall (W5), and Geographical Indication Specialty (N5).
