SPX Flow’s scraped surfaced heat exchange (SSHE) technology can handle a spectrum of fluids from thin sauces to viscous products like margarine

WITH three heat exchanger brands to its name, APV®, Gerstenberg Schröder® (GS) and Waukesha Cherry-Burrell® (WCB), SPX FLOW covers diverse applications for the food and beverage industry with tubular, scraped surface heat exchanger (SSHE) and plate designs. At Anuga FoodTec from 20-23 March 2018 in Cologne, Germany, several different displays highlight SPX FLOW’s capability in this area.

SPX FLOW’s experience in SSHE technology stems back to 1925 when the production and control of crystallized foods was revolutionized by the invention of the WCB Votator® SSHE. The company’s SSHE units and engineering capability to design SSHE units match the needs of a particular application. The SSHEs can handle a spectrum of fluids, from thin sauces or soups to viscous foods such as margarine. All are designed to enhance heat transfer efficiency, reduce product fouling and produce high quality, homogenous mixtures.

GS Nexus SSHE uses CO2 as cooling medium to improve efficiency and generate greater quantities of smaller crystals to enhance the quality of certain fats and margarines

Alongside the Votator SSHE models, ranges of SSHEs from SPX FLOW include models from the competitively priced APV® lighter duty SSHE to the innovative GS Nexus SSHE, which uses CO2 as its cooling medium to improve efficiency and generate greater quantities of smaller crystals to enhance the quality of certain fats and margarines. All ranges are available with a wide range of options, including differing blade types and varied materials.

A comprehensive display of blade options is available along with a full-size SSHE unit at the company’s booth. An animation will also be shown to walk the user through the basic operation of the SSHE and explain some of the options available that can help meet specific application needs and improve processes.

Although SPX FLOW SSHEs are designed to work reliably in the application for which they were designed, correct maintenance of these units is paramount importance if desired performance is to be preserved. Carried out correctly, routine maintenance can help reduce costly, unplanned shutdowns and increase productivity. To support customers with this activity, SPX FLOW has created a series of online videos that provide clear, step-by-step instructions for maintenance personnel to follow.

Spares for SSHE products are available with rapid deliveries from one of the many SPX FLOW distribution centres; the latest of which is strategically located in central Europe and able to provide delivery of most common spares within 24 hours to almost all European locations. Investing in original spares provides good return on investment and continued reliable operation of SSHEs. Parts are high quality and specifically designed for SPX FLOW equipment – giving peace of mind that processes will continue to run smoothly and reliably, and that operating life of the unit is achieved.

Aftermarket services are available through regional facilities and accredited service partners located throughout the world including Asia. Products and solutions are further supported by SPX FLOW Innovation Centers. These are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and leading food processing experts. Customers can trial processes and recipes at the centers prior to full scale production to ensure they are getting the results they require from the method and the desired final product characteristics.

Interested parties from Southeast Asia don't have to go far to check out SPX FLOW 's equipment; they can contact the company at their offices in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
