Food lovers now approach eating with greater curiosity than ever before

Key trends that will impact the food and beverage market through 2012 and beyond relate to purity, authenticity and sustainability, as consumers continue to look for products with added value, despite the ongoing economic uncertainty. At the same time, consumer interest in 'what's next' will also influence the flavour creation of both savoury and sweet foods.

More than half of food currently consumed in the Middle East and North Africa is imported, making MENA the largest food-importing region in the world. In the GCC, in particular, wider access to social media, the significant expansion of the tourism industry, and the influence of a large foreign workforce are driving flavour innovations and trends. Expect the Middle Eastern palate to be enhanced with exotic tastes as well as wellness alternatives.
