The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) recently showcased six industry sectors with the theme "Better the Best" to extend their international market reach at the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. Known as "regional champions", these six top exhibitions - the International Gems & Jewellery Show, ProPak Asia, Bangkok International Gift & Houseware Fair (BIG+BIH), Metalex, Renewable Energy Asia, and VIV Asia -- brought Thailand to its fourth consecutive year as the leader of ASEAN's exhibitions. Mr. Akapol Sorasuchar t , TCEB president, said the number of trade visitors was unprecedented given the global economic slowdown. "In 2009, there were 528,650 business travellers to Thailand that generated over 45,560 million Baht in revenue. Of those, there were 92,973 exhibition travellers who generated over 6,548 million Baht in revenue," Mr. Akopol said. "This year, especially under the normal world and national environments, TCEB predicts that by year-end, the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry will return a growth of 25%." TCEB's support under the 'Better the Best' initiative aims to help strengthen the networks and leadership of trade associations and individual exhibition event organizers in each industry sector. The initiative is expected to lead to increased numbers of buyers and sellers visiting Thailand, and also to encourage the growth, leadership and international profile of exhibitions serving secondary industry sectors. Mr. David Aitken, general manager of Bangkok Exhibition Services Limited that organises ProPak Asia, meanwhile announced that the 2010 edi t ion i n celebration of the 18th International Processing , Filling and Packaging Technology Event for Asia will take place 16-19 June at BITEC in Bangkok.
