U-CAN takes polymer testing a step higher

R&D Manager Ryan Huang shares his insights on the core value and prospects of U-CAN as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.  

 

Polymer testing is a vital process in the plastics industry where quality is a primary objective. As plastics materials are increasingly being used and expanding their applications in household goods, automotive, aerospace and other sectors and becoming an integral aspect in lightweighting strategy and sustainability, polymer testing has become a regular activity among plastics manufacturers. Right now, the consensus is to ensure the high performance of materials while lowering their impact on the environment.

Mr. Huang introduced the company’s main product - Rheometer –stating that the key function of this product is detecting the physical property changes of polymer materials induced by chemical reactions during processing. The method used during testing is to place the polymer sample under a fixed temperature and provide sheer force to the sample to detect the changes of torque variation under specific condition. “Not only does the materials need to be tested before processing, but even after the finishing of the product,” according to Mr. Huang.

As the specification for tensile strength and the fatigue endurance demand more attention if the manufacturers are aiming for quality production, it is worth noting that methods used in examination from U-CAN are highly responsive, so that they can flexibly and instantly fulfill the requests of diversity from the products being tested.

 

To quote Mr. Huang’s words on the importance for customers in understanding their materials better, the assistance provided by U-CAN’s testing instruments will examine the materials with “Mechanical, thermal, optical, rheological behavior and climate testing, in order to obtain a much better grasp of where the capacity and applications of their materials lay”. This kind of physical testing is crucial for the raw material suppliers to determine how to plan out their development strategies and commit into the most relevant field suitable for their products.
