Located in Jakarta, Indonesia, XSProject is a non-profit organization that provides social services to thrash pickers and educational opportunities for their children.
For more than ten years, XSProject has been raising global awareness about the environmental damage and social impact that consumer trash has on the planet. The non-profit organization has been involved in producing beautiful and unique products created from what consumers throw away. More important, it provides social services for trash pickers living in South Jakarta and educational opportunities for their children.

                         Tote bag from rice sack

XSProject uses discarded plastic cleaning product pouches salvaged by trash pickers, and gives these discarded materials a second life as a new functional product. The organization also accepts corporate donations of waste materials such as discarded billboards, banners and flags and automotive upholstery. The materials undergo careful washing, sorting and drying to ensure they are clean and durable. The sewers at its workshop in Jakarta then cut and sew the materials to create fun and functional products which are sold to customers to complete the “up-cycling” process.  Individual coffee packets, rice sacks and fused single use plastic bags are combined to create designs that eco-conscious consumers purchase for themselves and as gifts. Quality control inspects the final products to ensure that they meet high-quality standards.

XSProject products are sold in Jakarta at Chic Mart Shop in the South area of Jakarta. They can also be purchased online at www.xsproject-id.org or in its workshop. The organization also offers educational tours to adults and school groups of its workshop so visitors can learn how products are made from recycled materials.
