The first-of-its-kind Parachute? Ventricular Partitioning Device is a minimally invasive treatment for patients with heart failure caused by damage to the heart muscle following a heart attack. The catheter-based Parachute from CardioKinetix Inc. is deployed within the left ventricle for patients with ischemic heart failure following a heart attack. The implant partitions off the non-functional muscle segment from the functional segment. This decreases volume and restores function in the left ventricle. The implant is made of a fluoropolymer (ePTFE) membrane stretched over a nitinol frame. The device is deployed into the apex of the left ventricle and partitions off the portion of the ventricle affected by the damaged myocardium in order to treat patients with ischemic heart failure.
