In the late 1990s, B2B multimedia publisher Mike R. Hay saw positive prospects for trade media in China. In contrast to the rest of Asia, which was struggling with financial insecurity, investments were still pouring in to China and industrial activity was ramping up. Mike saw the potential to publish trade magazines for core industries and, with Swiss media giant Ringier AG, set up Ringier Trade Media in 1998. Since then, a wide range of publications and multimedia services have been developed not only for China but also for South East Asia. At present, Ringier Trade Media publishes 16 magazines, plus annual buyer guides and multiple tradeshow dailies.
