Hydro CEO as IAI's new chairperson

Hydro President and CEO Svein Richard Brandtzæg has been elected chairperson of International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the global aluminium industry association. Brandtzæg is appointed IAI chair for a period of two years, and replaces Artem Volynets from UC Rusal. "I am honoured by this appointment, at a time when aluminium metal and materials are experiencing strong growth, and as the industry faces both shortterm chal lenges and long-term opportunities ," Brandtzæg said.

TCEB promotes top six trade events in Thailand

Baosteel, Shanghai Toshiba launch joint laboratory

Baosteel Co.Ltd and Shanghai Toshiba, an air conditioner compressor manufacturer, established a joint laboratory as the new cooperative platform of silicon steel development and application on airconditioner compressor. Baosteel currently occupies over 50% of silicon steel and 100% of pickled plate in Shanghai Toshiba.
Shagang Group acquires controlling stake in ST Zhang Copper

Jiangsu-based copper pipe producer ST Zhang Copper announced that China's Securities Regulatory Commission has approved the application of Shagang Group, the largest private steel enterprise in China, also based in Jiangsu, to take a controlling stake in ST Zhang Copper. Accordingly, ST Zhang Copper will issue 1.178 million shares to Shagang Group to enable it to purchase a 63.79% stake, worth Rmb2.096 billion (US$306 million) in Huaigang Special Steel, which is currently owned by Shagang.
POSCO builds steel processing centre in Yantai

Korean steelmaker POSCO started the construction of POSCOCYPC, a new Chinese processing centre, in the Economy Technology Development Zone in Yantai, Shandong province. POSCO started to build up the new supply chain management (SCM) centre to secure a new sales hub for automobile sheets, as Shandong-based Chinese carmakers, located in Yantai and Jinan, are increasing production.
Kobe Steel and partners to produce automotive parts in China

Kobe Steel Ltd and two Japanese trading companies will form a joint-venture manufacturing company in China to produce aluminium forgings for automotive suspensions. The estimated $26.8 million investment project is due to start production in August 2012 at Suzhou in Jiangsu province. The same partnership of Kobe Steel (60%), Mitsui & Co. Ltd (25%), and Toyota Tsusho Corp.
Valeo gains 100% of its electrical systems entity in Pune

Valeo announced that it now owns 100% of the capital in its electrical systems manufacturing entity based in Pune, India, where it previously held a 66.7% stake and the N.K. Minda Group 33.3%. The company, which produces alternators and starters for passenger cars, will be named Valeo Engine and Electrical Systems India Private Ltd. This transaction is in line with Valeo's strategy to reinforce its presence in highgrowth emerging countries.
