ESI expands Singaporean operations to support Asian micromachining

Electro Scientific Industries Inc. has expanded its Singaporean operations with the opening of a new Asia manufacturing and service plant in the Kaki Bukit industrial hub of Singapore. ESI will initially use the facility for manufacturing and service of its micromachining and passive components product lines. The plant will also provide the company with the capability to manufacture and service the company's other new and existing product lines. Hydro CEO as IAI's new chairperson

Hydro President and CEO Svein Richard Brandtzæg has been elected chairperson of International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the global aluminium industry association. Brandtzæg is appointed IAI chair for a period of two years, and replaces Artem Volynets from UC Rusal. "I am honoured by this appointment, at a time when aluminium metal and materials are experiencing strong growth, and as the industry faces both shortterm chal lenges and long-term opportunities ," Brandtzæg said.

Shagang Group acquires controlling stake in ST Zhang Copper

Jiangsu-based copper pipe producer ST Zhang Copper announced that China's Securities Regulatory Commission has approved the application of Shagang Group, the largest private steel enterprise in China, also based in Jiangsu, to take a controlling stake in ST Zhang Copper. Accordingly, ST Zhang Copper will issue 1.178 million shares to Shagang Group to enable it to purchase a 63.79% stake, worth Rmb2.096 billion (US$306 million) in Huaigang Special Steel, which is currently owned by Shagang.
