Digital mobile X-ray system
MOBILE X-ray systems are increasingly being used in a range of applications because there is no need to transport the patient and examinations can be performed even in quite small spaces. Mobilett Mira Max from Siemens is setting a benchmark in mobile X-ray owing to improved user-friendliness thanks to new ease of operation in day-to-day clinical use, including the MAX (Multiple Advances in X-ray) functionality that support users in their everyday work (MAX assistance) and have a positive effect on image quality (MAX detection).
The system is equipped with a special tube arm that can be rotated 180 degrees and offers nearly unrestricted visibility while being moved. The buttons on the tube arm allow clinical staff to position the system at the patient's bed precisely to the millimeter.
At about 375kg, Mobilett Mira Max is one of the lightest devices in the digital mobile X-ray segment. It runs on batteries but can be switched to an external supply. This means that X-ray images can be generated immediately, even if the system batteries are completely empty.

Intraoral radiography on the go
INTRAORAL X-ray has gone mobile with the HELIODENTPLUS with a mobile stand. As well as being able to attach the x-ray tube on the wall or ceiling, users can now also attach it to a mobile stand. This means that the device is always within reach and can be adapted to suit the individual requirements of modern dental practice. This flexibility not only improves the daily workflow, but also makes x-rays more comfortable for patients -- even those who are immobile.

Device offers more comfort during mammography
RESEARCHERS from the Academic Medical Center, a university hospital associated with University of Amsterdam, have developed a new device that may result in more comfortable mammography for women. The new pressure-based protocol did not compromise radiation dose or image quality, and, on average, the women reported it to be less painful, their study shows.
Woutjan Branderhorst, Ph.D., researcher in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics at the Center, said the device is easily added to existing mammography systems as a retrofit. "Essentially, what is needed is the measurement of the contact area with the breast, which then is combined with the measured applied force to determine the average pressure in the breast," he said. "A relatively small upgrade of the compression paddle is sufficient."
