Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur started operation on August 1, 1996 and officially opened on December 16, 1997. It comprises a 330-bed tertiary care hospital and a separate Medical Office Building that accommodates consultants of various specialties for outpatient services. The hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare. It aims to meet that objective through improvements in advanced medical procedures and upgraded technology using state-of-the-art medical equipment to produce results that are of high accuracy. The hospital has invested in a number of high-end cutting-edge equipment to provide the safest care for patients.

Upgraded technology and services
Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur has a digital mammography system with new image dimension and detection. The Hologic Lorad Selenia’s unique direct-capture technology completely eliminates image-degrading light diffusion. At 24 x 29 cm, the Selenia’s field-of-view accommodates almost all breast sizes with a single exposure. One of its great features is that Selenia is equipped with a smart pedal that compresses to fit the breast shape to reduce pain. With its ability to turn the tube and bucky up to 180 degrees, this machine is suitable for kyphosis patients.
The hospital has invested in a new system for the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The latest and advanced biplane flat detector cardiac angiography system was installed to enhance the quality of care and safety of patients. The Philips Allura X-Per has the capability to acquire more cardiac images with less X-ray exposure.
This is ideal for children and kidney-impaired patients. The general X-ray unit at the Medical Office Building was upgraded to cater to the expansion of service. The Philips Essenta RAD uses a controlled beam of energy to produce images of the internal structure of the body and is best used for chest, bone, and joint examinations.
An additional ultrasound system can be found at the new Health Screening Centre at the Medical Consulting Suite. Siemens Antares can be used for general ultrasound studies, which include the scan of abdomen, pelvis, breast, and neck.
Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur has also invested in the Optovue RTVue-100 Optical Coherence Tomography scanner, which is capable of imaging the optic disc, retina, anterior segment, and cornea. This allows for early detection of glaucoma, retinal conditions such as macula degeneration and diabetic maculopathy, and certain corneal disorders. High-resolution scans can be performed in a matter of seconds due to the fast scanning speed. Patients’ eyes can be scanned without dilating their pupils and causing discomfort. Results are available for review immediately.

The hospital has upgraded its bone mineral densitometer for dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), also known as bone density scanning, to discover advanced bone health assessment. This technology is an enhanced form of X-ray that is used to measure bone loss with accurate diagnosis. DXA is today’s established standard for measuring bone mineral density and is most often used for the early detection of osteoporosis, a condition that often affects women after menopause.
