What happens when complex becomes simple? Visitors at the booth of KUKA Robot Automation (M) Sdn Bhd during the Metaltech trade fair found the answer to this question in the technological leader's new product generation consisting of the new QUANTEC robot series, the KUKA WorkVisual software environment and the KR C4 robot controller.
This range of robot is expected to benefit the automotive players in Asia and is particularly frequently used for spot welding, handling and machine tending. Essentially, however, the range of possible applications for the Quantec series is virtually limitless. The robot can also be operated in unusual ambient conditions, such as in those of foundries or clean rooms.

 QUANTEC robot series
Quantec series ensures that manufacturers in Asia will achieve cost savings due to the product's more compact cell design. This is enabled by the different mounting variants and 25% reduced robot volume that result in denser installation and improved installation options. The reduction in mass together with the latest-generation drive technology leads to energy savings of 25% and cycle times that are up to 25% shorter.
There is a greater planning security when manufacturers use Quantec due to its maximum flexibility in the planning and design phase, such as identical hole pattern and flange dimensions from 90kg to 300kg.
Users are also expected to achieve optimisation in investment costs, since they get precisely the robot they actually need rather than investing in unnecessary payload capacity and reach. And because of its, reduced weight, the robot is easier to transport and install. With their identical mounting base hole pattern and flange hole pattern, the new robots fit into existing cell layouts.

 KR C4 robot controller
Customer benefits from the flexibility of the KR C4 in the face of changing production conditions. Startup times are significantly shorter due to the elimination of wiring and installation work. Thanks to the integrated KUKA Safe Technology, the robot continuously adapts its velocity to its surroundings. Robots and operators can thus work closer together and more safely. If a workspace is violated, the robot no longer has to stop (typical reaction of a dedicated monitoring function), but can safely reduce its velocity accordingly. This reduces non-productive times, increases the availability of the robot system and eliminates loss of cycle time. Additional safeguards can be dispensed with, thus reducing costs still further.
New applications with human-robot cooperation are now possible. The conversion of the safe communication to a purely software-based solution opens up entirely new safety concepts for production systems that were not possible before, due to the limited number of physical I/Os. External axes, such as turntables or positioners, can be safely stopped without additional effort (loading and unloading of work pieces), while the robot continues production. Shorter programming times for teaching. The new safety fence function allows reduction of the required production area by up to 30%.
Although the validity of the old standards has been extended by two years to 2012, KUKA has been supplying its robot systems since 2009 in conformity with the new standards (ISO 13849-1) – in this way, KUKA is already providing its customers with security of investment for the future. Continued use of proven Windows-based PC technology enables continued use of familiar standards. As in the past, user programs can be run on the controller.

 Simplifying robotics
More than 22,000 trade fair visitors were able to see for themselves that KUKA has identified simplicity as a topic for the future of robotics and dedicAir Max 2018 KPU
