A chef takes from her incredible experience for a royal household to create a premium lifestyle brand

Carolyn Robb - Chef & Founder, The Royal TouchCarolyn Robb - Chef & Founder, The Royal Touch

CAROLYN ROBB, the former royal chef who served British royal families for 13 years, including 11 years with Prince Charles, his sons William and Harry, and the late Princess Diana, has added her name to a range of high-quality foods & beverages, culinary, kitchenware and houseware. Early this year Ms Robb personally hosted the Asia launch event at the British Embassy in Tokyo of her premium lifestyle brand: Carolyn Robb: The Royal Touch. The brand, intended as a seal of approval for quality products, is initially intended for discerning consumers in Greater China and Japan.

Foron Co Ltd of Hong Kong, which represents the brand exclusively in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, said 2012 will be a perfect time to introduce the Royal Touch brand, as it is a monumental year for worldwide media coverage of the royalty. "The royalty hosting of the Olympics in London, the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, and the anticipation of when Prince William and Catherine will have their first child," noted Foron CEO Karl Miu, "All these media attention will help bring awareness to this premium brand."

During the launch event, Ms Robb spoke her times with the royal family and her love affair with food. She also treated the guests with traditional British afternoon tea and desserts based on her receipts, featuring her famous Chocolate Biscuit Cake – a favourite of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, who subsequently selected it for his wedding with Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, in 2011.

"Cooking has always been my greatest passion – I love creating food that is wonderful to look at and is delicious to eat! Good food that is carefully prepared from high quality ingredients is fundamental to our health and ultimately our well-being and happiness," Chef Carolyn said at the launch. "Food is such a vital part of our lives and I love to enhance any special occasion with carefully prepared speciality foods."

Born and raised in South Africa, Chef Carolyn began cooking at a very young age with her mother, whom she described as a wonderful cook. Now a mother herself, she's begun doing the same. "I now have a young daughter of 3 years old and already I am teaching her to cook and appreciate foods from around the world," she said.

Before moving to the UK to undergo chef's training at a Cordon Bleu cookery school, just outside London, she spent some memorable time in the Swiss Alps. "After I had completed my studies at school and University I travelled to Switzerland where I worked in a beautiful hotel in the Alps and gained both great culinary and linguistic experience." Chef Carolyn recounted.

The Royal Household

Chef Carolyn's first job was in the royal household for the "wonderful family" of Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, the Queen's first cousin, and his wife Brigitte, the Duchess of Gloucester. Two years later, after preparing a dinner that Prince Charles and Princess Diana attended, she was offered a job with them. "I, of course, accepted it!" she said.

"When I joined their household at Kensington Palace in London, Prince William was seven and Prince Henry [Harry is the prince's nickname – Editor] was four," she recounted. "I shared many wonderful experiences with the two young Princes as they were growing up. I accompanied them on several summer holidays, and it was wonderful to see them enjoying themselves as two small boys should – away from the glare of the ever-present press.

"They always loved to come into the kitchen and I often spent time cooking with them. When they were young we cooked mostly sweet things – cakes, cookies and desserts. As they got older they enjoyed learning to prepareAir Jordan 1
