in-cosmetics Asia will name the winner on the exhibition show floor at 2pm on Wednesday, November 5


TEN new ingredients have been short-listed for the  Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award at in-cosmetics Asia. The award is given to honors the development of novel actives or functional ingredients that combine scientific excellence, formulation benefits for manufacturers and efficacy for consumers, and are cut above the rest, when compared to other products currently available on the market.

The ten finalists were selected by an expert panel of judges, including Alain Khaiat of Seers Consulting; Karl Lintner, president of Kal’Idees S.A.S.; Jack Ferguson, founder of Skinnovation Ltd; and Marc Pissavini, director of Basic & Applied Research at Coty-Lancaster Group. Nominees for the 2014 Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award are:

Actigym, a marine ingredient which provides contour reductions that are visible 28 days after treatment in areas such as the abdomen and thighs or arms, which are sensitive to sagging (Lipotec)

CareSil CES, a silicone encapsulated in a water medium without the use of irritating surfactants, delivers ease of formulation and novel sensory feel all in a unique delivery method (NuSil Technology)

CinderellaCare, a new natural whitening ingredient which can reduce kinesin expression in melanocytes during the sleep cycle (Ichimaru Pharcos)

Emulium Mellifera, the first ever emulsifier that auto-adapts to skin type and to climate, is a PEG-free sensory emulsifier that creates emulsions with white and luxurious appearance (Gattefosse) 

GP4G SP, a compound protects aquatic plankton during severe environmental conditions, which can be used in formulations to better manage the appearance of skin following exposure to solar and thermal shocks (Ashland)

Redensyl, a hair growth galvaniser which targets hair follicle stem cells and reactivated the proliferation of ORSc stem cells (Induchem) 

Snow Algae Powder, the first cosmetic active ingredients based on an extremophile snow algae, which lives on permanent snow and glaciers, stimulates the longevity gene Klotho and activates AMPK, a master switch in the cellular defence system (Mibelle Biochemistry)

Tego Sulfosuccinate DO 75, a foaming intensive care body wash with high oil level, which is compatible with anionic, amphoteric and nonionic surfactants and is an anionic surfactant for high oil containing foaming cleansing formulations (Evonik)

Tinosorb, an innovative organic particulated UVB and UVAII absorber that is one of the very few UV filters that are added to the water phase of cosmetic formulations and contributes to the Aqua light feel sunscreen that the consumer needs (BASF)

Valvance, a new breakthrough range of sensory and visual modifiers designed to deliver immediate perceived effects in look and in feel (DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific)

These ingredients were selected from among the many new innovations set to be displayed in in-cosmetics Asia’s ever-popular Innovation Zone, which provides inspiration for product development, and includes ingredients launched exclusively at the show or within the last eight months of the event.

Lucas Meyer Cosmetics took home the Gold award for their breakthrough ingredient Elix-IR in 2013.
