Plastics & Rubber
At K 2013, 3D printing has been earmarked for its potential for manufacturing plastic parts that an exhibit of related innovative products is presented.

The highly versatile generative manufacturing methods of 3D printing are now becoming established in the industry. Recent research activities promise more exciting developments in the years to come. At K 2013, the international flagship fair for the plastics and rubber industry, this pioneering technology has been earmarked for its potential for manufacturing plastic parts. Taking place from 16 October until 23 October in Düsseldorf, the most important international trade show for plastics and rubber will exhibit related innovative products from the machine engineering and raw material segments.

In order to pool all solutions presented by the additive production segment at K 2013, Messe Düsseldorf developed the 3D fab+print brand and published a special brochure to guide visitors to the relevant stands. The VDMA with its affiliated association of plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers supports these activities. Thorsten Kühmann, Managing Director of the association, is convinced: “3D printing is an excellent enhancement of standard production methods. The production of plastics parts without moulds or dies is a particularly attractive and promising option for small batch production or prototyping.”

The pioneering 3D printing technology not only works with polymer materials but with metal, ceramics, plaster and paper as well. It is highly significant for mould engineering, structural component production, medical technology and the production of consumer goods. Hence, Messe Düsseldorf will focus on this technology and its potential not only at K 2013. Hans Werner Reinhard, Vice President of Messe Düsseldorf: “The 3D fab+print brand will highlight the versatility of additive production methods at events such as the Bright World of Metals, the MEDICA, the COMPAMED and the drupa. This way, our exhibitors and visitors can learn more about the relevance of the pioneering technology of 3D printing for their specific industry.”
