Hexagon has finalised the acquisition of the Geomagic software business from 3D Systems Corporation, strengthening its capabilities in 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and digital inspection. Now part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, Geomagic's tools enhance productivity in capturing, editing, and converting 3D measurement data for use in CAD and throughout the product lifecycle.

The Geomagic suite includes solutions for 3D measurement, quality control, mesh and surface modeling, and parametric scan-to-CAD workflows – all vital for efficient reverse engineering. These tools will continue to serve customers across manufacturing, and complement Hexagon's broader reach into sectors like mining and construction.

“We are thrilled to welcome Geomagic to Hexagon,” said Josh Weiss, President of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division. “Their software and team are pioneers in scan-based reverse engineering and inspection. We will invest in advancing this technology to offer greater capabilities and productivity for our users.”

A major benefit of Geomagic software is its compatibility with any 3D scanner or portable CMM, supporting data from a wide range of optical, laser, and LiDAR devices. It also enables seamless import of native CAD and PMI data from platforms like SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, NX, Creo, and Inventor.

Hexagon plans to enhance the suite by integrating its own GD&T libraries and expanding support for its latest scanning hardware, including SmartScan VR800, ATLASCAN Max, and MARVELSCAN – giving customers end-to-end solutions for design, inspection, and manufacturing.
