The Liquid Tool: From Consumable to Competitive Advantage

Source: Release Date:2025-06-09 145
MetalworkingCoolants & Lubricants
At the core of Blaser Swisslube’ s mission is a mindset shift: metalworking fluids are not just consumables—they are strategic tools that impact everything from machine uptime and energy use to workplace health and environmental compliance. The Blaser’s Productivity Trophy 2025 hosted in Vietnam reflects this, how companies achieve their manufacturing goals with Liquid Tool.

Founded in 1996 in Singapore, UMS Group is a leading precision engineering company specializing in high-precision semiconductor components, electromechanical assembly, and final testing services. With over 35 years of experience, UMS serves various industries, including semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, and oil & gas. Known for its strong focus on R&D, UMS offers more than 86 special processes, such as anodizing and plating.

UMS strives to be recognized for its technical expertise and value-added capabilities across the industries it serves. With continuous improvement as a key performance benchmark, UMS management focuses on delivering high-performance products while optimizing costs. As a result, there is a cons-tant drive to reduce costs without compromising on quality. The team at UMS is led by Mr Gobinath Gunaselan, who is continuously looking into various manufacturing elements and to carry out cost saving projects.

Blaser Swisslube has been an active partner. In order to take account of the new circumstances at UMS, the choice of the metalworking fluid was reassessed. The factors machine, machining strategy and newly available coolant played a key role in this process. After a thorough onsite analysis by Johnny Chia, it was clear that the new coolant could improve sump life, tool life & coolant stability, provide corrosion protection, and reduce machine downtime compared to the previous coolant. The project started with great enthusiasm at UMS, Singapore.

The results were impressive, as Blaser’s Blasocut Eltec 200 delivered significant, tangible benefits for the customer. The tool costs was notably reduced with cleaner machines and components. The time consumed in cleaning the compo-nents was also remarkably reduced. Calculations revealed an improvement of over 50 percent in tool costs.
