Sandvik Coromant partners with Mazak and FANUC at METALTECH 2025

At METALTECH 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, metal cutting solutions leader Sandvik Coromant partnered with machine tool builder Mazak and automation expert FANUC. By equipping Mazak and FANUC machines with Sandvik Coromant’s high-performance tools, the collaboration aimed to boost customer value and expand market presence in Southeast Asia.

Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from May 14 to 17, METALTECH is one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent manufacturing trade shows.

Over its three days, the event welcomed more than 1,500 providers and over 20,000 visitors from 19 countries. With its regional influence and scale, METALTECH serves as a vital platform for companies to showcase their latest products and solutions, connect with industry peers and grow their presence in the Southeast Asian market.

“METALTECH is where the region’s machining community comes together. Our involvement, through partnership with FANUC and Mazak, allowed us to demonstrate the power of delivering total solutions through collaboration and application expertise”, said Yong Fong Tay, Sales Regional Manager for Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines at Sandvik Coromant.

Sandvik Coromant supplied a range of advanced tooling solutions for live demonstrations. This included the CoroDrill® DS20, CoroMill® Dura, CoroDrill® Dura 462, CoroMill® 316 CoroTap® 400, and the CoroCut® 2 — a cost-efficient solution for cutting depths where two-edged inserts can be used. At Mazak’s stand, these specific tools were featured in demonstrations of the VRZ X600, VC-Ez 510IP and the QTE 200, drawing strong interest from visitors.

“We’ve worked with Sandvik Coromant before to support customer applications, and we look forward to continuing that collaboration,” explained Edwin Teh, Application Assistant Manager at Mazak. “However, our partnership at METALTECH marked a closer step in our collaboration. It allowed us to showcase the full capabilities of our machining solutions while highlighting Sandvik Coromant’s tools.”

Sandvik Coromant’s partnership with FANUC similarly enabled FANUC to demonstrate the full potential of its ROBODRILL. While widely known in Malaysia, many visitors were unaware of the machine’s advanced capabilities. The live demonstration — featuring the CoroMill® 316 , CoroDrill® Dura 462 and CoroMill® Dura — showcased how pairing high-rigidity tools with ROBODRILL’s high-torque spindle can deliver performance comparable to BT40-class machines. The demonstration also sparked valuable discussions on how the machine can meet modern manufacturing needs.

“FANUC has worked closely with Sandvik Coromant in-house for some time, and we value their expertise and responsiveness. This collaboration at METALTECH was a natural progression, helping us better showcase our solutions and support customer application needs,” said Robomachine Sales Manager at FANUC Malaysia.

This year’s joint presence marked the first time FANUC and Mazak partnered with Sandvik Coromant at a trade show. “Our partnership with Mazak and FANUC reflects the growing importance of collaboration in addressing increasingly complex customer needs. By combining our advanced tooling solutions with their machine technologies, we can deliver total solutions that drive innovation and productivity across Southeast Asia,” Yong Fong Tay concluded.
