The dynamic Asian market continues to play a key role in Rosti Group’s strategic expansion, and this has been reflected in the establishment of Rosti India, a new facility located in one of India’s bustling manufacturing centers in Chennai. The state-of-the-art facility in India is core to Rosti Asia’s strategy as it represents a significant step in the company’s move to expand its footprint in the region’s growing market for high quality products. 

The Chennai facility will initially focus on producing high-precision plastic injection molding and contract manufacturing services, according to Pat Williams, Senior Vice President of Rosti Asia, who stressed how India will play a key role in the Rosti Group’s drive towards enhancing its value-added contract manufacturing services for its customers across Asia. “Rosti India facility will provide high-quality contract manufacturing services, including injection molding, precision assembly, and value-added processes. Designed to support both transfer programs and new customer requirements, the site enhances our ability to deliver responsive, scalable, and cost-effective manufacturing solutions across Asia.”

With this new facility, Rosti Group aims to strengthen its role in the supply chain across the region by providing the manufacturing solutions that Asian customers require to stay competitive in the market today. An integrated network of operations - China, Malaysia and India 

Rosti Group’s operations can best be described as adding value to the existing supply chain as the Group’s presence in three locations has enabled it to provide excellent support and services to its customers across Asia. In the last five years, Rosti has been looking at diversification to fully support its operations in Asia and the three sites work together to offer full regional support and risk mitigation. To date, Rosti China operations have been strengthened for medical devices manufacturing; the Malaysia facility enables competitive-cost yet high quality contract manufacturing; while the India site is being developed for full contract manufacturing utilizing the developing supply chain and diversifies our production footprint

Rosti India – bringing manufacturing advantages to demanding markets

Rosti India’s Chennai facility will house 20 injection molding machines in a 7,500 sqm production space and designed for rapid scale-up. It supports lean manufacturing, traceability, and efficient workflows tailored for contract manufacturing. Scheduled to be production capable by November 2025, the facility in India is well-positioned to handle transfer programs and is built to accommodate a wide range of consumer and industrial products.

Also, one of the advantages is that the Rosti facility is located in ESR Industrial Park in Oragadam. As the capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai boasts of having a well-developed infrastructure for exports, the third biggest in India. The industrial park serves as ideal location for the manufacturing operations of leading international companies. The park is highly accessible being near the Chennai International airport and Chennai seaport.

Williams states that the Chennai facility is an example of how the company has been focused to provide the same level of efficiency for all its sites located in various parts of the world. “At the Chennai facility  modern injection molding machines run under a digitalized quality system in an automation-ready layout.  Aligned with Rosti’s global standards, the facility is designed for consistent quality, process control, and traceability. It also offers real-time connectivity for performance tracking and remote support from other Rosti sites in Asia,” Williams emphasizes.

Moreover, Rosti India is supported by Rosti’s Asia Digital Innovation Lab, which offers technical and production expertise to help deliver ideas to market rapidly and cost-effectively. The facility utilizes smart building techniques for more responsive, efficient, and sustainable operations.

Embarking on sustainability through green technology   

For Rosti Group, sustainability is a very important subject, and this has been reflected in the Group’s strict adherence to the European standards and sustainability goals through its adoption of green technology. “Rosti India is aligned with the Group’s sustainability roadmap from day one. We have taken initiatives that include the adoption of energy-efficient equipment, localized sourcing to reduce carbon footprint, and implementation of waste management programs,” Williams explains.

The Chennai facility will contribute to Rosti’s targets such as increasing renewable material usage, advancing responsible sourcing, and undergoing third-party sustainability evaluations. The implementation of energy-efficient practices and localization are aimed at reducing the environmental impact of transporting the materials while at the same time supporting the local economy.   

Vast pool of manpower as advantage    

There is no denying that apart from being an attractive market for manufacturers, India is in an enviable position as it has gained a strong lead in technical manpower resources. India’s workforce is one of the main factors that attract foreign companies to set up their operations in the country, and Rosti recognizes this. “India offers a strong combination of technical skill and operational reliability. Rosti India is expected to employ 100 people at its facility with workforce expected to rise over the next two years. The result is a cost-effective, flexible operation that can meet the fast-evolving requirements of customers in Asia and beyond.
