On April 23, industry leaders, scientists, formulators and beauty innovators gathered for the PCT 2026 conference, themed “AI × Dermatological Science × Biotechnology”, to explore how emerging technologies are reshaping the future of cosmetics and personal care. Hosted in Huzhou, Zhejiang, the event brought together representatives from leading brands, ingredient suppliers, research institutions and technology companies for a full day of discussions on ingredient innovation, efficacy science, AI-driven R&D and long-term brand growth.
The conference opened with keynote remarks focused on the accelerating integration of artificial intelligence into personal care innovation. Ms. Erica Liang, Head of R&D Strategy and Operations in China at Unilever, shared insights on how AI science is leading a new era of innovation in the beauty and home care industry, highlighting the growing role of digital tools in formulation development, consumer insight analysis and scientific research.
Throughout the morning session, speakers explored cutting-edge advancements in skincare science and ingredient technologies. Topics included full-chain whitening and spot-removal strategies from OSM Group, innovative applications of encapsulated copper peptides, and microneedle technology for enhanced transdermal delivery. Shanghai CHANDO Group also presented clinical and in vitro research on reducing atopic dermatitis recurrence through pSTAT6 inhibition, demonstrating the increasing importance of mechanism-based efficacy validation in modern skincare development.
A highlight of the event was the factory tour and visit to the OSM Pearl Museum and Smart Factory, where attendees experienced firsthand how traditional pearl research is being integrated with intelligent manufacturing systems and advanced biotechnology. The visit reflected the conference’s broader theme of combining heritage ingredients with modern scientific innovation.
In the afternoon, Forum A focused on “Mechanism-Driven Ingredient Innovation: From Active Discovery to Efficacy Realization.” Discussions covered AI-powered ingredient discovery, new registered cosmetic ingredients, plant biotechnology and extracellular vesicle applications in cosmetics. MISTINE introduced the beauty industry’s first Nature-level AI large model for ingredient R&D and product upgrades, while experts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University of Technology explored the industrialization pathways of plant actives and traditional Chinese medicine-derived extracellular vesicles.
The panel discussion on formulation innovation attracted strong attention from attendees. Industry experts discussed the real barriers behind award-winning products, efficacy claims and market competitiveness, emphasizing that long-term scientific validation and differentiated consumer value are becoming increasingly critical in a highly competitive beauty market.
Meanwhile, Forum B centered on “From Deep Technology to Value Transformation,” examining how brands are evolving from functional skincare toward experience-driven and precision-based beauty solutions. Speakers shared perspectives on sensory technology, oily skin regulation, ingredient risk management and data-driven precision skincare. Insights from 18 million real-world skin samples sparked extensive discussion on the future of personalized skincare for Chinese consumers.
The event reflected several key trends shaping the future of the beauty industry:
- AI is rapidly transforming ingredient discovery, efficacy prediction and product development workflows.
- Mechanism-based skincare and clinically validated efficacy continue to gain importance.
- Biotechnology and plant-derived actives are opening new opportunities for sustainable innovation.
- Precision skincare powered by consumer data and skin diagnostics is becoming a major growth direction.
- Brands are shifting from “functional competition” toward emotional experience, sensory interaction and long-term consumer trust.
As part of the broader PCT 2026 annual program, the conference also highlighted Rongge’s ongoing commitment to building an influential platform for scientific exchange and industrial collaboration across China’s personal care ecosystem. With events planned across eleven cities and continued focus on innovation awards and industry networking, PCT 2026 aims to further connect global technologies with China’s fast-evolving beauty market.
