Engineered to support increasingly larger manufacturing systems, the new series combines long-range measurement capability with simplified installation and maintenance.
The MPLJ Series features Nidec's proprietary electromagnetic induction-based MP Scale technology, delivering position detection accuracy of ±2.5 μm/m across stroke lengths of up to 255 m. Its modular scale design, available in standard lengths of 250 mm, 500 mm, 750 mm and 1,000 mm, enables easier transportation, installation and maintenance, as only damaged sections need to be replaced rather than the entire scale.
To simplify machine design, the detector integrates an A/D converter and pre-amplifier within the sensor head, eliminating the need for an external signal conversion unit. This enables a single-cable connection between the sensor head and the NC controller, reducing wiring complexity and installation time.
The MPLJ Series also features an absolute position detection system that retains position data even when power is turned off, removing the need for homing during startup. Because it does not require a backup battery, maintenance requirements are further reduced.
Designed for demanding industrial environments, the detector is rated IP67 and employs a fully contactless electromagnetic induction structure, making it resistant to oil, dust and machining chips while maintaining long-term measurement accuracy. The system also supports multi-head configurations, allowing multiple axes to be controlled independently from a single scale. Combined with Nidec's MP Checker II software, users can monitor installation conditions, perform diagnostics and support predictive maintenance more efficiently.
According to the company, the MPLJ Series addresses the growing need for high-precision position detection in large machine tools, transportation equipment and other long-stroke applications, helping manufacturers improve productivity while reducing installation and maintenance costs.
