Paul Horn GmbH is expanding its tooling portfolio with the S271 system, a precision solution developed specifically for Escomatic automatic lathes. Combining machine-specific tool holders with precision-ground inserts, the system is designed to deliver sharp cutting performance, process reliability and greater flexibility in small-part production.
The S271 tool holders feature interfaces adapted to individual Escomatic machine types, allowing them to be integrated directly into the machines’ turning tool positions. Users can select inserts with either a fine-ground chip-breaker or a µ-finish, depending on their machining requirements.
For reliable performance, Horn applies its proven ES1 HiPIMS coating. The coating’s thin structure helps preserve cutting-edge sharpness, making the inserts particularly suitable for machining small, intricate and high-precision components.
Unlike conventional sliding- or fixed-head turning machines, Escomatic automatic lathes keep the raw material stationary while the complete tool assembly rotates around the workpiece. This distinctive operating principle enables the economical, high-volume production of small components.
Typical applications include parts for connectors, automobiles, electronics, medical devices and watches—industries where dimensional accuracy, consistent quality and production efficiency are critical.
Horn’s S271 range supports the commonly used Escomatic D and NM machine series. Alongside standard inserts, the portfolio includes coated carbide blanks that users can grind individually. This flexibility is especially valuable for prototype machining, small production batches and specialized applications requiring task-specific cutting geometries.
For requirements beyond the standard range, Horn can also manufacture special inserts in various geometries through its Greenline process. These customized tools can be produced and delivered quickly, helping manufacturers respond more efficiently to new component designs and changing production demands.
With the S271 system, Horn brings together precision-ground tooling, application flexibility and dependable coating technology to help Escomatic users achieve reliable and cost-effective small-part manufacturing.
