Ceva Inc. and LG Electronics have partnered to develop a complete ultra-wideband (UWB) technology platform for semiconductor and OEM companies designing next-generation automotive, industrial and consumer products.
The collaboration combines Ceva’s Ceva-Waves UWB baseband IP and software with UWB radio-frequency technology developed by LG Electronics’ SoC Center. The companies said they have already secured a major U.S. semiconductor company as a customer for the combined offering.
LG’s UWB RF technology supports TSMC’s 22 nm process, while Ceva provides the UWB baseband and software components. The companies said the combination is intended to reduce engineering effort and integration risks for customers developing UWB-enabled system-on-chips.
UWB is expanding beyond applications such as digital car keys and trackers into automotive, industrial and enterprise systems that require precise and secure location awareness. Ceva’s next-generation UWB architecture supports the latest IEEE 802.15.4ab standard and is designed to improve ranging performance in non-line-of-sight environments and at extended ranges while maintaining low power consumption and resilience to interference.
The platform also supports UWB radar sensing and additional channels introduced under the next-generation standard. Potential applications include secure access, asset tracking, indoor navigation, precise positioning and sensing.
According to ABI Research, UWB device shipments are expected to reach nearly 1.18 billion units by 2030, up from 597 million in 2026.
