High-speed robotic sorting advances automotive sheet metal production

Bystronic has entered into an agreement to acquire Isochronic AG, expanding its automation capabilities with high-speed robotic sorting technology and specialized software for sheet metal processing.

Founded in 2020 near Lausanne, Switzerland, Isochronic develops simultaneous pick-and-place robotic systems for automated material handling and sorting. Its technology combines proprietary robotic kinematics with an in-house software platform to support fast, heavy-duty sorting after laser cutting.

For automotive manufacturers and component suppliers, the expanded automation portfolio can help streamline the handling of laser-cut sheet metal parts. Automated sorting reduces manual intervention and supports faster, more consistent material flow between cutting and downstream production processes.

Isochronic’s modular technology accommodates a wide range of sheet formats, giving manufacturers greater flexibility when processing varied automotive components and production volumes. Combined with Bystronic’s laser-cutting expertise, the systems are expected to support more integrated and scalable manufacturing environments.

The acquisition also gives Bystronic access to Isochronic’s proprietary software and robotics technology.
