The 2026 ASEAN Manufacturing Summit: Advanced Manufacturing for Electronics, Semiconductor & High-Performance Plastics brought together industry leaders, manufacturing professionals, technology providers and engineering experts on October 14–15, 2026, at the Olive Tree Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.
Organized by Ringier Trade Media Ltd. through its Ringier Events division, the two-day summit provided a platform for knowledge exchange, technology discussions and business networking, reinforcing Penang's position as an important manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
A significant highlight of the conference was the participation of Yang Berhormat Tuan Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang, who delivered the keynote address. His presence marked an important occasion for the summit, underscoring the relevance of industry engagement and collaboration in supporting Penang's continued industrial development.
The conference attracted 112 attendees, including representatives from manufacturing companies, technology solution providers and industry organizations. Through technical presentations, business networking and industrial learning visits, participants explored the opportunities and challenges shaping the region's manufacturing future.
Advancing ASEAN's Manufacturing Capabilities
With Malaysia playing a strategic role in global electronics and semiconductor supply chains, the summit addressed the growing importance of advanced manufacturing technologies in maintaining industrial competitiveness.
Penang, recognized for its established electrical and electronics ecosystem, provided a fitting location for discussions on semiconductor manufacturing, precision machining, intelligent robotics, artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0.
The conference opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Kathryn Gerardino-Elagio, Events Manager, Southeast Asia, Ringier Trade Media Ltd., who emphasized the importance of connecting manufacturers with technology providers capable of addressing practical production challenges.
Beyond technical presentations, the summit encouraged participants to establish meaningful business relationships, exchange industry experiences and identify opportunities for future cooperation.
The conference programme featured presentations addressing different stages of the advanced manufacturing value chain, from semiconductor processing and precision engineering to automation, software integration and materials technology.
Among the key discussions was the strengthening of ASEAN's semiconductor ecosystem through advanced manufacturing excellence. The programme examined how regional manufacturers can improve production capabilities, increase efficiency and respond to increasingly complex semiconductor requirements.
Intelligent robotic automation was another important topic, particularly its application in semiconductor manufacturing environments where flexible material handling, process efficiency and reliable production flows are essential.
Precision machining technologies also received attention, with discussions focusing on the production of critical components and consumables used in semiconductor processing equipment. These applications highlight the importance of advanced machine tools in achieving the accuracy, repeatability and productivity required by high-technology industries.
AI, Digitalization and the Future of Smart Manufacturing
Artificial intelligence and digital transformation emerged as central themes throughout the conference.
Speakers explored how manufacturers can move beyond basic automation toward more connected, intelligent and data-driven production environments.
Discussions covered the application of AI in semiconductor testing, the transition toward smart factories, and practical approaches to implementing Industry 4.0 technologies.
The role of manufacturing execution systems (MES), open-source technologies and agile digital solutions was also examined, highlighting opportunities for companies to adopt digital manufacturing tools while considering implementation costs and return on investment.
Workforce development formed another important part of the programme.
Dato' Dr. Hari Narayanan, Chief Executive Officer of the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), addressed the progression of artificial intelligence from personal productivity applications toward broader enterprise value creation.
His presentation brought attention to the human dimension of industrial transformation, particularly the importance of developing the technical capabilities and skills required to support increasingly sophisticated manufacturing operations.
Other discussions examined industrial identification technologies, precious metals recycling and advanced die attach materials for high-performance semiconductor packaging, demonstrating the breadth of technologies contributing to the manufacturing ecosystem.
Together, these sessions highlighted a common priority: manufacturers must continuously strengthen their technological capabilities, operational efficiency and workforce readiness to remain competitive.

Connecting Technology Providers with Industry
Beyond the conference sessions, the summit provided valuable opportunities for business networking and engagement between manufacturing companies and technology suppliers.
The event was supported by four Business Partners: Shenzhen Youibot Robotics Co., Ltd., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Ltd., Rosti Group and Shanghai Kastar Chemical Co., Ltd.
Their participation reflected the diverse technologies and services supporting advanced manufacturing, including robotic automation, precision machine tools, integrated manufacturing solutions and specialty chemical applications.
Tessolve Semiconductor participated as Industry Partner, while InvestPenang supported the event as Supporting Partner.
The summit also received support from its Association Partners: The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia, Penang Foundry & Engineering Industries Association (PENFEIA), and Malaysia Plastics Recyclers Association (MPRA).
Their involvement helped strengthen connections across engineering, manufacturing, investment and industrial business communities.
Networking breaks and interactions with business partners provided opportunities for participants to discuss manufacturing requirements, explore available technologies and establish potential business relationships.
Industrial Learning Visits Bridge Knowledge and Practice
Extending the conference beyond the meeting venue, the second day featured Industrial Learning Visits on October 15, offering selected participants opportunities to gain firsthand exposure to Penang's industrial and technology ecosystem.
The programme included visits to the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), Tessolve Semiconductor and Globetronics Technology Berhad.
At PSDC, participants had the opportunity to learn more about industry-driven technical training and workforce development initiatives supporting Malaysia's manufacturing sector.
The visit to Tessolve Semiconductor provided exposure to semiconductor engineering and testing facilities, connecting the conference's technical discussions with practical applications in the industry.
Meanwhile, the visit to Globetronics Technology Berhad offered participants insights into manufacturing operations within Penang's established electronics industry.
These visits complemented the conference presentations by connecting theoretical discussions with real-world industrial environments, while encouraging closer engagement between delegates and host organizations.
Building Momentum for ASEAN Manufacturing
The 2026 ASEAN Manufacturing Summit demonstrated the importance of bringing together technology providers, manufacturers, engineering professionals and industry organizations to address the evolving needs of Southeast Asia's manufacturing sector.
As manufacturers face growing demands for higher productivity, precision, flexibility and sustainability, collaboration across the industrial value chain will remain essential.
The event also reinforced the significance of developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting advanced manufacturing technologies, particularly as AI, robotics and digital systems become increasingly integrated into production operations.
By combining technical knowledge sharing, industry networking and firsthand industrial exposure, the Penang summit created opportunities for participants to explore solutions, exchange ideas and strengthen professional connections.
More importantly, it highlighted that the future of advanced manufacturing in ASEAN will depend not only on investments in technology, but also on the ability of businesses, institutions and industry partners to work together toward a more innovative, competitive and resilient manufacturing ecosystem.
