Advanced servo-driven removal system reduces energy consumption

WITTMANN introduced the WS90, an efficient solution for sprue removal and small-part handling.

WITTMANN unveiled the WS90, a particularly efficient and flexible solution for sprue removal and small-part handling at Fakuma 2026. The new removal device uses servo drives, significantly reducing compressed air consumption compared to conventional pneumatic sprue pickers.

Another advantage of the servo drives is that the acceleration and deceleration values can be adjusted to suit the application. This reduces the dwell time of the robot arm in the mold area and ensures low-vibration operation. This increases removal and placement precision, enabling the new servo removal system to reliably handle even simple pick-and-place tasks involving small parts. The WS90 features a full-featured R9 controller and enables synchronized axis movements. All main servo axes can perform 3D movements simultaneously, which supports short handling times.

The WS90 performs its movements in the tightest of spaces, keeping the safety housing of the production cell compact, thus saving costs in many applications. The axis positions can be flexibly adjusted for different tasks.

The WS90 can be easily substituted for existing systems. In integrated production cells with WITTMANN injection molding machines, the WS90 can be controlled directly via the B8X machine control panel. The new servo-driven removal system is designed for payloads of up to 2 kg. It is primarily used on injection molding machines with clamping forces ranging from 35 to 180 metric tons.
