More visitors came than expected at the 9th iftech food+bev tec Pakistan 2012, which was held at the Karachi Expo Center from 4 - 6 September. The event recorded an attendance of 3,464 visitors, nearly 50% higher than organizers estimated. As the country’s leading show for food and beverage, iftech food+bev tec Pakistan is the ideal platform for foreign food-technology exporters and local food producers looking to upgrade their production facilities. ICE – the Italian Trade Commission as well as PGBF - the Pakistan German Business Forum were first-time exhibitors this year.The event was held under the auspices of Pakistan’s Ministry of Food & Agriculture and with support from the BOI-Board of Investment Government of Pakistan and EDB-Engineering Development Board.
To generate even more value for exhibitors and visitors alike, the organisers Pegasus of Karachi and fairtrade of Germany have joined forces. Pegasus has been organising Pakistan's leading food technology and food packaging show ”iftech” since 2001, whilst fairtrade for Iran’s leading food technology show “iran food+bev tec“ since 1994.
Pakistan’s food industry
Pakistan’s food processing market is one of the most important in Asia. With a population of 169 million and an expected GDP of US$ 174.9 billion in 2010, the country is an ever-growing market. Its agro food products contribute 21% to the country’s GDP (more than US$ 36.7 billion), and it is the main source of livelihood for 45% of the country’s population. The food industry of Pakistan has attracted US$ 954.5 million FDI over the last five years (Federal Bureau of Statistics, State Bank of Pakistan).
