From healthy skin to mood management, Brenntag Specialties’ latest portfolio of ingredients deliver on improving emotional well-being, mood, and stress management.

Founded in 1874 and headquartered in Essen, Germany, Brenntag is a market leader in chemical and ingredient distribution worldwide.  Its two divisions, Brenntag Essentials and Brenntag Specialties offer a full line of specialty chemical and ingredients portfolios and services, including customised applications, marketing and supply chain solutions, technical and formulation support, comprehensive know-how in regulatory as well as digital solutions.


At in-cosmetics Asia, held from 7-9 November 2023 in Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC), Brenntag Specialties showcased the latest in beauty and personal care solutions especially focusing on sustainability, health and well-being. The company put the spotlight on the growing trend in mood and stress management.  During the trade show, Ringier had the opportunity to speak to Wissanee Ruangsorn who is currently president, Personal Care, HI&I and Water Treatment APAC at Brenntag.

Brenntag is known to provide innovative chemical and ingredient products to the beauty and personal care industry. What’s new for consumers in Asia?

At this exhibition, the key themes we are presenting revolves around emotional well-being, mood, and stress management.  Research shows that more and more people find it difficult to cope with everyday stress from different stimuli, and seek natural means of relief.  Brenntag has launched a natural and effective solution for everyday stressors that consists of powerful and innovative eco-friendly ingredients. 





We presented three concepts at this event. The first one is “Strengthening” which is about formulating personal care solutions using our high-performance ingredients. The showcase we presented was “Cream to foam nourishing wash” which contains key ingredients such as Miracare SLB-365/W. It is a completely formulated system containing mild anionic and amphoteric foaming surfactants, and a structuring agent which is muti-lamellar and easy-to-use concentrate. It contains a moisturiser that soothes as it cleanses the skin.





The second one is “Connecting” which enhances the customers’ sensory experiences with sustainable and high-power solutions. The remarkable product is “Vit-Love drops” is an anti-ageing vitamin enrich-serum, which contains such as Vitamin B12 and AMPHISOL K. It is an oil-in-water emulsifier based on microdomains technology that relieves stress skin including boots radiance and vitality for your skin.   


The third concept is “Inventing” which carries breakthrough innovations from our technical experts. For example, the Alluring shower oil-to-foam contains key ingredients are such as argan oil and Aersol OT 100, which is an excellent wetting agent, emulsifier, stabiliser, and dispersant. It enhances skin strength and is anti-inflammatory.  




What can you say about the current beauty and personal care trends and how does Brenntag adapt to changing trends?

The current beauty and personal care trends show that consumer preferences are more focused on self-care. Post-pandemic, they are concerned with seeking eco-friendly products and solutions that enhance their physical and mental wellness. However, there are differences in consumer preferences for beauty and personal care applications in each country. For example, Thai consumers prefer whitening skin while the Koreans prefer glass skin.   


Then, our technical experts from our network of dedicated personal care innovation and application centres collaborate with our supplier partners to deliver our exclusive formulations and concepts as well as the best-in-class service for all stops along the customer journey.


What is the company's commitment to quality and compliance when it comes to beauty and personal care industry regulations?

We are strongly committed to global and regional quality and compliance from our long experience and expertise background in the beauty and personal care industry. We also have network and supplier partners in 72 countries worldwide to support and comply with beauty and personal care industry regulations and requirements.


What are the company's sustainability initiatives and its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products in the beauty and personal care industry?

Brenntag is listed in the DAX 50 ESG and DAX ESG Target from the sustainability direction. In January of this year, Brenntag was awarded platinum status the first time from the independent EcoVadis assessment.


In addition, in December 2022 we launched comprehensive Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data which is called “CO2Xplorer”. It is a part of Brenntag’s sustainability strategy to foster and enhance transparency the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to drive reductions across the entire supply chain.


Brenntag is the first global chemical distribution company certified to meet the requirements of the internationally recognized standard ISO 14067:2018 and the Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline by the independent external party TÜV Rheinland Energy GmbH. These demonstrate the concrete recognized results from our efforts to achieve environmental impact reduction.


Please describe the company's supply chain and distribution strategies in the beauty and personal care industry.

Recently Brenntag Specialties expanded the Life Sciences sector in China with the acquisition of Shanghai Saifu Chemical Development Co., Ltd.(“Saifu”), one of the most respected personal care chemical Chinese market leaders and distributors, to execute “the strategy to win” as the global go-to service partner for innovative and sustainable solutions.


What is Brenntag’s outlook on the strategies for growth in the coming years?

The strategic transformation step for the growth path is “Advanced Operating Model” which will be live in January 2024. Brenntag Essentials and Brenntag Specialties are going to be two distinct, high-performing divisions with full business autonomy supported by a lean Corporate Center. It will shift to sharpen the profiles of the two divisions and enhance their value proposition to align market requirements including a new governance and steering structure of the divisions via divisional CEOs and Executive Committees.


In addition, this transformation step will take advantage of market opportunities and to create the readiness for the next strategic steps by 2026. This paves the path to “Horizon 3”, the long-term transformation execution, to achieve Brenntag’s vision, the undisputed market leader across all dimensions.
