Spanish deeptech company, Roka Furadada has announced the completion of a €2.3 million financing round, led by existing shareholder O Financial Club (OFC). The funds will be used to accelerate research and development of new cosmetic active ingredients and to expand the company’s international presence, according to the firm.

Founded in 2018 by Judit Camargo as an R&D project within the Spanish pharmaceutical group Ferrer, Roka Furadada specializes in sustainable sunscreen active ingredients. The company is headquartered at the Barcelona Activa Technology Park, with R&D facilities located on the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and employs a team of around 20 people.

Roka Furadada has completed several financing rounds to date. In 2021, it closed a €1.5 million Series A round with investors including OFC, pharmaceutical engineering firm Klinea Ingeniería Farmacéutica, and Women Angels for Steam, an angel investment network supporting women entrepreneurs in the STEAM fields. The company later secured a €3.2 million grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC). With the latest round, Roka Furadada’s cumulative funding now exceeds €7 million.

The company’s sunscreen filters are designed to be ocean-friendly, minimizing impact on marine ecosystems such as coral reefs, while remaining safe for human use. According to Roka Furadada, its products offer up to six times more protection than traditional UV filters. The company has earned the European Commission’s Seal of Excellence and operates under a B2B model, serving sunscreen manufacturers as well as filter producers and distributors.

Roka Furadada’s portfolio includes Roka Smart UV PvB 360, a photoadaptive sunscreen ingredient; Roka Cirkle Sotabosk, a facial care ingredient; and Roka Cirkle Kanigo, formulated for skin and scalp care. These products are already available in seven markets: Spain, France, the United States, South Korea, Mexico, Italy, and Poland.

For fiscal year 2024, the company reported revenues approaching €1 million, placing it on the verge of breakeven.
